The Gherkin is probably one of the most photographed buildings in London and for good reason as it's design is simply wonderful. I've taken my share of photos of it over the years so I generally give it a miss these days. But this angle actually interested me when I saw it with those buildings on the right edging into the belly of the gherkin and their symmetrical windows shooting up and down the image.

For the confused, 30 St Mary Axe, London (The Gherkin) shot with a fisheye lens. Bit of distortion, whaddya gonna do?
View on the Gherkin building at sunrise from Heron Tower. Went up there one morning with my friend Otto Berkeley who is an amazing photographer but unfortunately doesn't post on Flickr anymore (Instagram instead). The breakfast in Duck & Waffle was lovely, the views too, just a shame the windows were fully misted up so we couldn't see a thing from our table... haha... luckily the view from the bar was ok so managed to snap couple of shots
30 St Mary Axe, better known by its nickname Gherkin, is reputed to be one of the most eye-catching buildings in London and it stands out prominently in the city's skyline. The Gherkin is one of several modern buildings that have been built over the years in an historic area of London.

I wonder if you have seen this position before? Looking straight up the Gherkin Skyskraper in London as a helicopter flies over
30 St Mary Axe, in my opinion the best looking tower in London.

Recently one of my friends made a joke, saying that I am The River Thames' personal photographer. Basically he was eluding to the fact that the vast majority of my snaps include the Thames... and upon further inspection by myself, I realised this is true! So, for a change here is a London Scene without the Thames. In view is St Mary Axe (or the Gerkin) and some London buses zooming by on their daily business of picking people up.
I went for sunset and happy I did. Although you can't see much of the sunset (at least not as much as you would near the river), the sky was a gentle orange and pink hue. It was a freezing evening. But happy I ventured out :)

Took a trip to London for work, but just had to slip the compact in my pocket. I love the mix of old and new, and this building has long been one of my favourites, although the relative newbies, such as the Shard and the 'Walkie-Talkie' are hugely impressive too.
Will be trying to do some catching up on Flickr in the next few days.
