George H. W. Bush's funeral train rolls through East Texas on an appropriately gloomy day. The 4141 has sat under a tarp at North Little Rock for quite some time now waiting on this assignment.

UP 4141 & UP 1943 await their pick up in the UP Dupo Yard as they make their rounds on the UP System.
Next stop: Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
UP 4141 on display inside the 29,000 square foot Pavilion at the George H.W. Bush Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. In the background is one of the Marine One helicopters used by the president. It's nice to see the two pieces displayed inside a wonderful setting, especially since the 4141 sat outside all tarped up for over three years.
On Halloween 1992, George H.W. Bush made a last ditch effort for re-election in the 1992 Presidential campaign against Bill Clinton with a train trip through the Wisconsin countryside. The President barnstormed on three different trains during the campaign. On September 26, 1992 he began two days of campaigning in heavily Republican precincts of northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan on CSX Transportation and Conrail. Norfolk Southern hosted the next one on October 20–21, from Atlanta to Spartanburg, S.C., to Raleigh, N.C. The third leg of the POTUS or President of the United States special was hosted by Wisconsin Central on October 31st from Burlington, Wis., to Chippewa Falls. These three “whistle stop” trips were the most extensive campaigning by train done since that of then President Dwight Eisenhower. The impressive 19-car train called “The Spirit of America” is making a trek up Wisconsin Central’s main line led by new CSX GE C40-8W No. 7812, temporarily decorated and renumbered 1992 for the occasion. Trailing No. 1992 is WC GP40 No. 3000, along with UP, C&NW and other equipment. The 41st president of the United States of America, George H.W. Bush, died on November 30, 2018 at the age of 94.

The "World of Wax" originally opened in 1961 in a street level location of the Crystal Garden at the corner of Belleville and Douglas. Displaying some ninety figures, this attraction establish North America's first exhibition of Josephine Tussaud wax figures from England. In April of 1971, Canada's 13th Prime Minister, the Right Honourable John George Diefenbaker, officiated at the museum's grand re-opening.
In Year 2000, the Royal London Wax Museum has an inventory of some 300 wax figures that have been sculpted in England, the most recent of which is "The woman of the Century". Decades of enhancements have gone well beyond the simple accumulation of wax figures. The multi-faceted "World of Wax" experience has been magnified not only through audio-visual technologies, but also through complementing displays such as the Crown Jewels Theatre, the World War I Field Surgical Hospital Kit, the thousand year old piece of cedar, replica sword of Genghis Khan, and original opera chairs crafted in 1987 for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
North America's first Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum remains the "flagship" establishment on the continent, and is a major contributor to Victoria's image and reputation as "A Little Bit of Olde England".
2011: The Wax Museum closed it's doors in 2010.

George H.W. Bush was the Republican candidate in my first presidential election as a legal voter. I voted for Bill Clinton instead. Nevertheless, my view of Bush improved over time, and I have come to see him as a very good president, and one that represented a fairer time when people were more decent to each other. It was an honor to see him "In State" tonight at the U.S. Capitol Building.
I was surprised at how tall he was. He also had a really great handshake. So strong, as if to say, 'Damn it, I might be in my 80's but I still have the power to kick your ass.'
We both look totally fat here. Mr. Bush looks great.
Lily's first time meeting a former President.
We swung through Little Rock on our way to Springdale, as I had long wanted to see Union Pacific's Jenks Shop complex, where locomotives receive heavy overhauls. We had no idea that this would be sitting here: Union Pacific #4141! This EMD SD70ACe was specially painted to commemorate the opening of George H. W. Bush's Presidential Library and Museum about 12 years ago and has mostly been stored since then. When the former President passed away a couple of months ago, 4141 was immediately reactivated and pulled his funeral train in Texas to his final resting place. Now being stripped off its engine and other electronics, 4141 will eventually be donated to GHWB's Museum where it will be part of an interactive display.

George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President of the United States serving from 1989 to 1993. He also served as Vice-President under President Ronald Reagan from 1981-1989.
The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Complex consists of ninety acres on the West Campus of Texas A&M University in College Station. The campus consists of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum shown here, the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, and the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
Built at a cost of $43M dollars, the 69,000 sq. ft. Library and Museum was dedicated on November 6, 1997. Designed by the architectural firm of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK). The library is one of 13 administered by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The textual archives contain more than 44 million pages of personal papers and official documents subject to the Presidential Records Act, as well as personal records from associates connected with President Bush's public career as Congressman, Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in China, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
The museum has just under 17,000 square feet of permanent exhibit space and 3,000 square feet of temporary exhibit space. Permanent exhibits draw on the best of the museum collection to visually convey the essence of George Bush's life and public service career and to illustrate historical events of this period in American history.
President Bush died at the age of 94 on November 30, 2018, just three weeks after our visit to the museum. At the time of his death he was the longest-lived U.S. president, a distinction now held by Jimmy Carter. He is buried on the museum grounds along with his wife, Barbara, and daughter Robin.
Writing in the New York Times the day after President Bush passed, historian Jon Meacham, President Bush's official biographer, paid this tribute to our 41st president:
"The nation mourns him not least because we no longer have a president who knows that the story of the nation is not all about him. In the last years of his life, President Bush was asked how he’d like to be remembered. He didn’t pause — and he avoided, as ever, the first-person pronoun, what his mother used to call the “Great I Am” — and replied: “That we put the country first.” That such words seem so quaint is one of the many reasons we already miss him as much as we do."
After being used on George HW Bush's funeral train, the UP has decided to display this unit around its system. Parked in probably the best possible spot in Proviso, the unit is seeing another soft light of sunset. The 1943 will accompany the 4141 on this tour. These two are to pull freight in-between their display locations.
The “Anchor to Windward” in the foreground bears many bouquets and other tributes to the Bush family.

The President George HW Bush funeral train has completed its mission in Texas and is preparing to leave town. Here UP 4141 has traveled to a spot over West Villa Maria Road on the Navasota Sub in Bryan. This morning, I was able to track down the UP 1943 leading what will eventually turn into the Pres. George HW Bush funeral train. This was running out of Council Bluffs as the PCBWF1-02 and hit the Kansas City area in the late morning before heading south towards Parsons and Texas.
Here, it's rounding the curve west of Wolcott, KS on the Falls City Sub.
UP 4141 painted in Air Force One colors to honor the late President George H. W. Bush. At the time of its creation in 2005, President Bush was able to tour this locomotive and see its glory. Ultimately, it lead his funeral train as part of a great ceremony and send off to one our great Presidents. Not since Dwight D. Eisenhower has an US President been laid to rest by use of a train.
I'm glad I got to see this finally after 13 years.

Life-sized and life-like statues of all Presidents of the United States, arranged throughout downtown Rapid City. George H. W. Bush. (9/29/2024)
I just happened to be in DC this week. While I was taking some sunrise photos around the Capitol building Wednesday morning, the Presidential Salute Battery was positioning the cannons to honor President George H.W. Bush's body being moved from the Capitol Rotunda, to the Washington National Cathedral.
