I am very happy with the results and the sharp grain look.

Second time to shoot geometric shapes for class, now taking light into consideration. I ended up more taking shadow than light into consideration...

This series of images began with a snapshot photo of stairs and a landing in a modern office building. The strong geometry of the scene and the restricted palette made the forms of the scene more graphically interesting than what might be supposed from a simple staircase. Image 1 is the original view. The colors are different than they appeared by eye, due to interior lighting, a dark corner, and window tinting that filtered the exterior light. The colors were kept as the camera saw them because they were more graphical. Version 1b is the same image rotated 90 degrees. The geometricality of the scene is so potent that even when disoriented and real world identity is eschewed, it is still a strong graphical image. Version 2 strips the color from the scene for a graphical black-and-white view. Version 3 tiles four copies of the image into a symmetrical design. The stairstep pattern of the real stairs creates the classic zigzag and trapezoidal diamond patterns that are so fundamental to Zuni, Navajo, Puebloan, and other Southwestern native arts. This is fitting since the original staircase image comes from an office in Scottsdale, Arizona. After creating the main tile, it was duplicated for the 2 and 3 tile patterns, mimicking how this would look on native pottery, baskets, or blankets. Version 4 duplicates the 1, 2, and 3 tile patterns of version 3 but with contrast adjustments to balance the distribution of light and dark elements and thereby accentuate some of the more peripheral elements in the scene. Version 5 is an artistic mashup that uses the version 3 tiling combined with a photograph of Arizona rock art. The rock art photo is shown elsewhere in this photostream. It is from central Arizona’s V-Bar V Heritage Site, a spectacular collection of petroglyphs and calendar elements carved in the distinctive Beaver Creek Rock Art Style by the southern Sinagua circa 1150-1400.
