This is one of the rotors from the array of electric generators. I think it was said that this rotor weighs in at 20 tons, and it takes both cranes built into this area to lift it.
The US Army Corps of Engineers Tugboat Billmaier is equipped with three diesel generators in addition to the main engine. This is one of the three located on the port side of the engine room.

The Eagle Helicycle is a single place homebuilt helicopter with a modified Solar T-62 turbine engine. The T-62 turbine is used mainly in helicopters as an APU or ground power generator. Six belts drive the tail rotor shaft and the main gearbox. This is likely the smallest helicopter I will ever see.
When I was at school we used a Van de Graf generator which made your hair stand on end....yes i did have hair in those days.
This synchronous generator 3000V/200kVA was installed in hydro power plant Viska (Frýdlant, Czech Republic) in 1920. This machine is in operation for more than 90 years without failure!
I spent much of my time in the generator room. Three generators One online, One on Standby, and One down for maintenance.

Front light under the fender; fender to the down tube; down tube to the bb shell; around the bb into the chain stay; chain stay to the rear fender at the bridge; under the rear fender up and around and out at the tail light. What a lot of work, especially when you don't really know more than the merest rudiments of the workings of electricity. Lesson learned: check your ground.
