Singapore General Election 2025

British politics is going through a challenging phase at the moment and for the first time in years real reform might just be on the agenda. The Speaker of Parliament has said he will stand down later this month - the first Speaker to be effectively forced from office in more than 300 years - and today we're in the middle of a Government reshuffle after three members of the Cabinet resigned this week in an attempt to force the Prime Minister out and another has just left for personal reasons...

We've been here before... These are the words Oliver Cromwell delivered to the House of Commons in April 1653 when he dissolved the so-called Long Parliament:

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonoured by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.

In the name of God, go!

TDs face heavy fines after erecting election posters in parts of Dublin ahead of the announcement of the 2016 election which is due to be called Today. However, Mr Flanagan of Renua found a way the cheat.

Mr Flanagan’s posters were initially erected advertising a public meeting in Howth this Wednesday. However the meeting details were printed removable stickers which when removed revealed “VOTE No. 1”

A Renua spokesman claimed that Mr Flanagan’s posters had been advertising an event in the local constituency and were compliant with the current framework.

Millions of Britains turned out today to cast their votes in the 2015 General Election

I guess if there are six Pictures that sum up a decade, it might be these!

The night that people in London realised that the people in the rest of the UK (generally speaking) don't think the same... AT ANY COST.

That people in Scotland would rather be part of Europe than part of the UK.

I guess that a keyword for the next decade will be tribalism!

In Ireland Political Posters may only be erected for a certain specified time period before an election. This time period is either (a) 30 days before the poll date or (b) from the date the polling day order for the election has been made, whichever provides the shorter period of time. Posters (including the plastic cable ties) must be removed within 7 days of polling day. These requirements for election posters are set out under section 19 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997 and the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2009.

In politics, campaign advertising is the use of an advertising campaign through the media to influence political debate, and ultimately, voters. These ads are designed by political consultants and political campaign staff. Many countries restrict the use of broadcast media to broadcast political messaging. In the EU, many countries do not permit paid-for TV or radio advertising for fear that wealthy groups will gain control of airtime making fair play impossible and distort the political debate in the process.

In both the United Kingdom and Ireland, paid advertisements are forbidden, though political parties are allowed a small number of party political broadcasts in the run up to election time. The United States has a very free market for broadcast political messaging. Canada allows paid-for political broadcasts but requires equitable access to the airwaves. Campaigns can include several different media (depending on local law). The time span over which political campaign advertising is possible varies greatly from country to country, with campaigns in the United States lasting a year or more to places like the UK and Ireland where advertising is restricted by law to just a short period of weeks before the election. Social media has become very important in political messaging, making it possible to message larger groups of constituents with very little physical effort or expense, but the totality of messaging through these channels is often out of the hands of campaign managers.

Campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists stage a demo and die-in outside Conservative Party HQ calling on them to pledge to increase spending on cycling and pedestrian provision, in line with UN recommendations. The campaigners also highlighted the impact on public health of road traffic pollution - which include thousands of deaths and debilitating lung and heart diseases - and its contribution to global climate change.

The idea is that #TheBigOrangeHead benefits anytime his name or likeness are used. By using #TheBigOrangeHead image you thwart that reality. Also, you might want to think about substituting his name as well. I have suggested #TheBigOrangeHead or John Miller.

Today in the UK we're having a general election to vote for a new government. In the area that I live in we're also having an election for a District Councillor and for 9 members of the Parish Council. We had three ballot papers of different colours.

This series is from where my twin obsessions with toast and 2005's UK General Election met head on....

These “stories” are probably conceived in a command center on the 13th level basement under Trump Tower. Perhaps someone should cross reference IMDB Pro and LinkedIn for reality TV writers and producers against the personnel lists for the Trump campaign and their contractors. Imagine that a team of veteran reality TV writers have been hired by The Celebrity Candidate to create scenarios to play out on the screen. The whiteboard is full of ideas, all presented in hopes of earning that big viral bonus money. Mr. Candidate gets into a spat with Speaker Smug Beard. Mr. Speaker says he might not support Mr. Candidate because he has wild ideas. Mr. Candidate calls Mr. Speaker a loser. In the end Mr. Speaker kisses Mr. Candidate's ring and gushes about how his ideas have evolved. Isn't Mr. Candidate just another regular Republican now? This writers room is killing it. They have the media sopping up their copy so fast you would think they are on the payroll. .
