Just over a week after the Conservative Party formed their first majority government for nearly twenty years, people took to the streets of Cardiff to voice their distrust of the UK's largest, right wing party
Supporters of Labour Party celebrating the victory in general elections. There were several Maltese displaying Libyan flags and Libyans waving Maltese flags. After the Britons, Libyans are the largest foreign group in Malta (ca. 4,000 persons, i.e. 1% of population) and connections are not only that way, that both countries celebrate their democracy (Libya just recently, Malta for a century). There is some kind of a common language and despite different religions (which are close together, though) Maltese and Libyans share many cultural things that Maltese don't share with Central- or Western-European peoples as Germans or Britons. After my stay at Malta, I still do not understand, why this country can't be member of EU and Arab League at one time, as this state is neither fully European nor fully Maghrebine or Arabic but 50% Arabic, 25% Italian, 25% British. So Malta really is a special case...

Today The Land of the Bed cast their votes, in what looks to be a nail biting general election!
The exit polls suggest the result is too close to call.
Although alarm bells rang when Mrs PB declared to the pollsters she'd seen it fit to vote for herself 10 times. She vehemently denies all allegations of electoral fraud.
Lets just hope the monster raving loonies don't get in!

Boris Johnson said child poverty has gone down. In fact, after falling dramatically from 1998 to around 2010, it’s been going up ever since.
There were 4.1 million children living in poverty in the UK in 2017-18. That's 30 per cent of children, or nine in a classroom of 30.1
There are expected to be 5.2 million children living in poverty in the UK by 2022.2
47% of children living in lone-parent families are in poverty.3 Lone parents face a higher risk of poverty due to the lack of an additional earner, low rates of maintenance payments, gender inequality in employment and pay, and childcare costs.
Children from Black and minority ethnic groups are more likely to be in poverty: 45 per cent are now in poverty, compared with 26 per cent of children in White British families.4
London has the highest rate of child poverty in the country.5 You can see local child poverty rates on the End Child Poverty website.
Child poverty reduced dramatically between 1998 and 2012 when 800,000 children were lifted out of poverty.
Work does not provide a guaranteed route out of poverty in the UK. 70 per cent of children growing up in poverty live in a household where at least one person works.6
Children in large families are at a far greater risk of living in poverty – 43 per cent of children living in families with 3 or more children live in poverty.7
Childcare and housing are two of the costs that take the biggest toll on families’ budgets. When you account for childcare costs, an extra 130,000 children are pushed into poverty.8
(Updated March 2019. All poverty figures are after housing costs).

Ireland is a great country, with a great future. It is also a country with grave problems. But nobody, and especially ourselves, should ever doubt what we are capable of. Our abilities are far greater then our problems.
