Here is a Polling Station in the Mount Pleasant (Salisbury) constituency on polling day 10.4.70. Sitting with the ladies on the Rhodesian Front table is the candidate Rt. Hon. John Hartley (Jack) Howman, the Minister of Defence. He need not have looked so glum as he was safely returned to Parliament as part of the RF majority. Jack Howman was a signatory of the UDI in 1965 and a close friend of Ian Smith, both men having been born in Selukwe.

Ireland goes to the polls on 25th February to elect a new Dáil Eireann. In the Republic of Ireland, Members of Parliament are called Teachta Dála (or TD for short) and 165 deputies are elected by proportional representation using a single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies.
Anthony Kelly is a candidate for left-wing ultra-nationalist Sinn Féin party. It is Irelands oldest party and both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael can trace their origins back to Sinn Féin. The name Sinn Féin means 'Ourselves' or 'We Ourselves'.
