Creeping front on Norfolk Island signifies the eventual arrival of Category 2 Cyclone Gabrielle. Subsequent days meant some buffeting and rains but little damage on the historic small island. The cyclone eased into a tropical low as it passed southeast to New Zealand but there caused massive flooding damage. Cyclones are unpredictable even after downgrading.

Cyclone Gabrielle is creating havoc in the Te Ika-a-Māui/North Island of Aoteoroa/New Zealand with multiple states of Emergency in various towns and cities and many roads closed. (Update from Lance: a National State of Emergency now declared). Plus emergency services people battling landslips and life threatening situations. My thoughts are with my friends and family members. Take care and I hope the states of Emergency in Hawkes Bay, Auckland etc are lifted asap. Its been a really wet summer indeed for Kiwis.
