Yesterday, we had a bright, sunny morning, which was probably the reason this young owl kept its eyes shut to mere slits much of the time that I watched it. Two other owls were hunting in the same general area where I found this one. However, I would have needed a super telephoto lens to get acceptable shots of either of them. It was enough to see three Snowy Owls in the same morning. This winter has been very generous with its gifts and I am deeply grateful.

Double-crested Cormorant

This double-crested cormorant was successful in capturing, then downing, this trout.

This egret landed near me, and soon caught a fish. I was fortunate to get the whole scene captured. This was the successful removal of the fish from the lake.

Reddish Egret doing what they do best. They're just fish magnets.

It took me a year, but I finally got a better shot! Ocean City NJ. Welcome Center.

Xo,

Got snowed off yesterday, so went to Fingeringhoe wick nature reserve for a walk. Bumped into a kingfisher at kits pond, both surprised, naturally it flew off!

Saw my first Tree creeper, it out flaked me on the blind side of the tree!! Typical! But did manage this shot in the rain after the snow!

This Great Blue Heron had been fishing this spot for a bit, and came up successful with this tidbit.

This egret actually caught a decent sized fish! Most were very small as the heron was catching the other day.

Female Common Kingfisher emerging with a snack.

Spent last Saturday trying to get this shot and took about a thousand - most of which were rubbish for one reason or another - but you only need 1!

Had to try and work out exactly where the Kingfisher would emerge and manually focus with the fastest shutter speed and maximum depth of field possible (whilst not pushing the ISO too high). So in other words 'spray and pray' as soon as the bird dives.

Even at f/7.1 there is only a few millimetres depth of field - luckily on this occassion she emerged parallel to my plane of view and from the right spot.

Even for the R5 the animal eye AF can't grab the bird eye diving or emerging - but at least it can take 20 frames a second which helps greatly with this type of thing.

This is an osprey strike that was successful! At Commonwealth Lake last month.

Got to spend some quality time with my Mom today. It was a good day indeed. We drove around the lake and admired the views. A little more of the artistic side of my photography. A few lean more to the abstract side of what I see when I'm in nature. Time is oh so short, that is today's life lesson from Mother Nature.
