A common ship on the lakes in the 18th century, the schooner/sloop of about 40 to 50 tons formed the bulk of the merchant fleets in western waters. Often converted to military use, but sometimes purpose-built for wartime usage, this generic hull can be used to represent many of the small craft about which few details have survived.

While Liberty was actually a merchant turned to military usage by the British and subsequently captured by the Americans, Revenge was built at Ticonderoga as a man of war. However, contemporary illustrations show them having similar lines, and surviving returns show them as being of similar size (within a few feet) and tonnage (give or take a couple). Both were rigged as schooners.
