Verreaux's eagle-owl, also known as a milky eagle owl or giant eagle owl (Bubo lacteus), is the largest African owl. It is a resident primarily of dry, wooded savanna. Verreaux's eagle-owls are mainly grey in color and are distinguishable from other large owls by their bright pink eyelids, a feature shared with no other owl species in the world. Samburu National Reserve, Kenya.
Conservation status: Least Concern
This is a Giant Swallowtail, the largest North American butterfly species. with a wingspan range of 86-140mm (3-3/8" to 5-1/2"). It flitted about my yard for a few minutes, but always returned to this mass planting of phlox.
The spectacular "Côte du granit rose" coast (literally Pink Granit Coast) at Ploumenac'h (Brittany) with the lighthouse, called Maen Ruz (Red rocks).
Another archive pic from last summer at Prairie Garden Trust. This is a gorgeous butterfly, with yellow on the outside of the wing and different dark markings on the inside. There are similar species in other parts of the country and world, but this is the only one like this around here.
Met I have Giants, with their head reaching the clouds and open arms, on my way back home. Afraid I was, but not for long. Not after I saw that there was nothing to be afraid of those goodhearted Giants. I was to find out that Man was to fear so much more...

SSCV Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) owned and operated by Heerema Marine Contractors. It is named for Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse ridden by Odin in Norse mythology. The vessel is equipped with two revolving cranes built by Huisman Equipment B.V., each with a capacity of 10,000 t (11,000 short tons); the main cranes can be operated in tandem to jointly lift 20,000 t (22,000 short tons). It was ordered in 2015 and built in Singapore by Sembcorp Marine. After its completion in 2019, SSCV Sleipnir succeeded Heerema's earlier SSCV Thialf as the largest crane vessel in the world. A species of abnormally large Aphid known as the Giant Bark Aphid or Longistigma Caryae. They can reach a size of almost 6mm long. Photographed at Conowingo Dam in Maryland.

It's called the Giants Playground because of the way in which the massive dolerite boulders have apparently been placed one on top of another by some gigantic force, creating strange rock formations and a series of mazes. You'll have to keep your bearings when exploring this maze site. You can easily find yourself a few hundred meters from where you thought you should be.
These beauties are such a delight to see flying around in the garden. So it's always nice to see that they are making more.
I always worry a little about them when they are on their honeymoon. They are very easy to spot and they are a highly sought after meal for birds.
Speaking of birds, the house finches have started visiting once more and I have seen a bunch of the tiny little guys that stick to the treetops. Well, I guess you can say I have seen them :) I haven't gotten a good look at the treetop hoppers, they move so quickly and stay so high. I know they are there, I hear them and see the activity. It's time to clean up boggy creek for the little migraters.
I will be on and off a while. I have a bunch of indoor projects in the works plus outdoor maintenance and company coming soon.

Prehistoric giant came up from the ocean, from the North Sea.

I noticed these giant mushrooms - each with a diameter of 25 to 30 cms, I guess - growing high up on the trunk of a willow.
I think it is Dryad's Saddle, but please correct me of not.
Start or finish of the Coastway Coast trail is Giant's Causeway. When I saw the first pictures I thought it must be giantly, but... it was an illusion. Fact: It is UNESCO world heritage, but for me the coast trail was better.
