I was fascinated by seeing this giant dragonfly fluttering in our garden. I've never seen one before. It's probably 4 or 5 times the size of a regular dragonfly, there was a regular one standing next to it and it appeared tiny compared to the giant one! I admit that it gave me both the awe and the chill!
Another archive pic from last summer at Prairie Garden Trust. This is a gorgeous butterfly, with yellow on the outside of the wing and different dark markings on the inside. There are similar species in other parts of the country and world, but this is the only one like this around here.

SSCV Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) owned and operated by Heerema Marine Contractors. It is named for Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse ridden by Odin in Norse mythology. The vessel is equipped with two revolving cranes built by Huisman Equipment B.V., each with a capacity of 10,000 t (11,000 short tons); the main cranes can be operated in tandem to jointly lift 20,000 t (22,000 short tons). It was ordered in 2015 and built in Singapore by Sembcorp Marine. After its completion in 2019, SSCV Sleipnir succeeded Heerema's earlier SSCV Thialf as the largest crane vessel in the world. This is a small, four sided grater, just as the big ones, only in miniature size. We use it for curcuma (hence the yellow stains), ginger, and garlic, Marie used it for the cheese.

This beauty was raised in protective custody. Her first flight couldn't have been more perfect. I released her just outside the lanai door and she flew straight to the wild lime (host plant) located in the back 15' of the yard.
Although, I had no intention of taking photos of this beauty, I couldn't resist. After all the camera was out and she stayed in the yard instead of heading to one of my neighbors yards.
This Giant Swallowtail, if I am correct this is a female. It's difficult to tell but if you look at the very tip of the tail, males have claspers to hold on to the females and females don't have those. This one does not appear to have the claspers.
The other way I can tell the gender of the giant is by getting a decent look at the dot pattern on the upper wings. The third one over that looks like a large vitamin has a little notch in it on the females. However, the male's dot is complete without a notch. Hopefully that makes sense.

The giant otter or giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) is a South American carnivorous mammal. It is the longest member of the weasel family, Mustelidae, a globally successful group of predators, reaching up to 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in). Atypical of mustelids, the giant otter is a social species, with family groups typically supporting three to eight members. The groups are centered on a dominant breeding pair and are extremely cohesive and cooperative. Although generally peaceful, the species is territorial, and aggression has been observed between groups. The giant otter is diurnal, being active exclusively during daylight hours. It's called the Giants Playground because of the way in which the massive dolerite boulders have apparently been placed one on top of another by some gigantic force, creating strange rock formations and a series of mazes. You'll have to keep your bearings when exploring this maze site. You can easily find yourself a few hundred meters from where you thought you should be.

The Indian Giant Squirrel, also called the Malabar Giant Squirrel (ratufa indica maxima), is a large tree squirrel species native to India. Adult head and body length varies from around 14 inches (36 cm) and the tail length is approximately 2 ft (0.61 m). Adult weight is about 2 kg (4.41 lb). It is an upper-canopy dwelling species, which rarely leaves the trees. It travels from tree to tree with jumps of up to 20 ft (6 m). Its main predators are birds of prey and the leopard. The Giant Squirrel is mostly active in the early hours of the morning and in the evening, resting in the midday. It is a shy, wary animal and not easy to discover.
