Sarah advises #FuturePanthers to not procrastinate! In her experience she said, "I am someone who just freaks out when I have a ton to do and little time and I then don’t get anything done. It just builds so much stress." So take care of yourself and plan out your schedule while getting used to university life!

Meet Dallas Jones, this week's #ResidentofEIU, Dallas is a freshman from Troy, Illinois. He has not declared a major yet; however, Dallas plans on job shadowing a dietician and public relations worker this semester to help him figure out what he wants to major in.

"My favorite part about living on campus is how easy it has made it to be involved. It becomes simple to join new things when I am already on campus." Dallas explained. His favorite memory comes his involvement on campus. Dallas works for the #EIUFootball team as their manager and loves to travel with them. He especially enjoyed traveling to face the University of Arkansas.

He also works at WEIU, the official radio station for #EIU, where he writes and works with their technology. Dallas not only works on campus, but he also is a part of ROTC, a member of Douglas Hall Eboard, and the president of #DouglasHall council. He enjoys being the president for it allows him to plan interesting events for his peers.

Dallas' advises #FuturePanthers to get involved and stay involved on campus when you arrive! He found getting involved to be extremely easy to do, for there is always events, that you will be interested in and to deeper your knowledge, going on campus. He also suggests that Future Panthers take a campus visit to get a good feeling about the environment of EIU and Charleston.

Dallas chose EIU for its small class sizes at our college. They allowed him to easily meet new people and learn inside and outside of the classroom through the opportunities provided. Eastern went from being just a school to "an avenue to learn skills" that will help impress future employers in Dallas' opinion.

Congratulations, Dallas, on being this week's #ROE. We hope you continue to learn at EIU in and out of the classroom.Good luck on your job shadowing sessions!

Welcome back to #ResidentOfEIU!

This week's #ROE is Kyndal Ward from Edwardsville IL. She is a biology major concentrated in pre-health and dreams of one day becoming an OBGYN (Obstetrician-gynecologist). She transferred to EIU in spring of 2017 from the University of Memphis.

Her favorite memory on campus actually has to deal with her work! Kyndal works at one of our dining halls. What she loves about being a part of the dining hall experience is she is able to meet new people from different parts of the world. She has also found that her manager Chris has helped to make her experience memorable by maintaining an admirable and positive environment.

#FuturePanthers, Kyndal has some advice for you! Kyndal quoted Eleanor Roosevelt, “You must do the thing you cannot do.” She truly believes in this quote, especially for those who are transfers since she is a transfer. "I think Eastern is a great choice because of the small class sizes. It makes for a better learning experience, which I know from transferring from a big school." We would add-on to this by saying do not be afraid to make a change to better your experience and education for college.

We asked Kyndal is she had anything else she would like to say to the #EIUFamily. All she wanted to say was "Go PANTHERS 💙"

Congratulations Kyndal on being this week's resident of EIU. We hope you continue to make more memorable moments at EIU and good luck on your finals!

Congratulations to Antario Simon, an athletic training and kinesiology major from Alton, IL, for being this week's #ResidentofEIU! Antario hopes to have a career as a Physical Therapist or Athletic Trainer for a Professional Sports Team. One of his accomplishments was being offered to play the piano for Stevenson reservation. He also works on the deli side of #StevensonHall Dining.

What he enjoys about living on campus is that it "has made it easier to get to an from class, makes it easier to focus without the stress of bills and other things that come with living off campus which I’ve done before." The EIU faculty has also been extremely helpful towards Antario since they genuinely care and are concern about his successes and made share not judge him on his struggles. "I’m very thankful for the opportunities and favor I’ve received here at EIU."

He advises #FuturePanther to get a head start and stay focus. While enjoying the social events at EIU are fun and a great way to get to know EIU and your fellow classmates, it is easy to forget about your academics but hard to get out of that hole as Antario stated to us. Remember why you came to EIU which was to get degree!

Lastly, Antario shared that he hopes to get his grades up in order to play for our basketball team. Even with acceptances to play in Canada, Austria, and Mexico, Antario wants to get his degree first. "I will use EIU as a building block, mentally and physically but I like the direction this school is steering me in."

Way to go, Antario! We love hearing about our students' successes on campus and we hope more will come your way in the future.

Congratulations to Maddie Havens on being this week's #ResidentofEIU! Maddie is a sophomore from Normal, IL and is studying English.

"What I like about living on campus is the ease with which you can make friends with people in the building, and the fact that you can bump into those people anywhere. Some of my favorite conversations I've ever had have taken place in the hallway, at the front desk, even in the bathroom." Her favorite memories at EIU actually have to deal with how easy it is for her to keep contact with her friends, especially her best friend who lived two doors down from her room!

Maddie has been influenced by our faculty at EIU, particularly the English faculty. "In the very brief moments that I have considered changing my major, one of the biggest things that kept me from doing so was the fact that I would miss my English professors so much."

Maddie also had some great advice for our #FuturePanthers: "never stop trying to make new friends, because you never know who might change your life." We agree, Maddie, and the best place to keep making friends is by being involved on campus like Maddie is! She is a member of EIU's English Club and is desk assistant at #ThomasHall. "Being a desk assistant in Thomas Hall has greatly benefited my EIU experience. It has taken me out of my comfort zone and has allowed me to meet so many interesting people. Through living on campus and working in my building I have made many great friends that I otherwise may never have even met."

Congratulations again, Maddie, on being this week's ROE! We hope you gain more friends and experiences while you are here at EIU.

#EIUFamily, this week’s #ResidentofEIU is Christobel Nweke.

Christobel is from Huntsville, Alabama. He is studying pre-engineering for two years then he will transfer to another institution in order to obtain a degree in computer engineering. He hopes to become a programmer or a computer hardware engineer for a big company such as Microsoft or Google.

He is the beatboxer of Eastern Euphonics, an acapella group. He also participates in his hall council and is the vice president of community engagement for RHA E-board. “Being involved means you get to speak and interact with others which is a great experience. You get to build relationships along the way and it has helped me with my communication skills as well for sure.”

Christobel advise #FuturePanther to live on campus, for it helps with the transition to university life. Christobel also said that incoming freshmen should be not afraid to talk to their RA or the faculty on campus since he has only had good experience with them. He found his RA was always there for him while transitioning to EIU and was always available to answer his questions. He also found faculty to care about his well-being on top of his success in their classes. They have always been happy to help him out with any issue.

When we asked Christobel what is his favorite memory so far at EIU, he said it was when he played the dodgeball intramurals at the beginning of the semester. Even though he has not played in a while, he gave it a try and had an absolute blast. He played on his RA’s team with his floormates, so he was able to share fun memories with his floormates and dominate the game!

Congratulations, Christobel, on being this week’s #ResidentofEIU. We hope you experience more fun filled memories here while achieving your degree to accomplish your dream career!

She follows her own advise by being involved with #PembertonHall Council and being their RHA Rep. "My involvement on campus has allowed me to meet lots of new people and create a strong bond with them."

By living on campus, Josh states he feels move involved and a part of a community. His favorite memory on campus was going to see Ke$ha at our spring concert in 2016!

Josh has great advice for #FuturePanthers which to get involved as much as you can on campus. “There's so much to do, but you have to be proactive. Congratulation to Janet Pernell on being this week's #ResidentofEIU!

Janet is from Chicago, IL, and she is majoring in Health Promotion with a concentration in Health Administration and minoring in Business Administration. Janet is involved in Lincoln Hall Council, EIU RHA, and ACTS Campus Ministry at EIU.

When she was asked why she chose to EIU and to live on campus, she had this to say, "I picked EIU because of it affordability, welcoming feel, textbook rental service, and the distance from home. Out of all the colleges and universities I’ve applied to, EIU gave me a chance when others didn’t. I chose to live on campus because of its convenience to the resources on campus. Whenever I need something, I know I can count on my ARD and the few friends I’ve made in my resident hall for further assistance. The best part, my resident hall is one path away from all of my classes."

She also would like to advise #futurepanthers to get involved as soon as possible, but to remember that you are a student first and forth most!

We cannot wait to see all the accomplishments on campus! Congratulation again!

#EIUFamily, it’s #ResidentofEIU time! Meet Alana Reinhardt from Belleville, IL. Alana is a transfer student majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

Alana had a lot to say about her living experience in Pemberton Hall, where she is currently the Vice President of their hall council. She is working on designing and ordering Pemberton Hall’s new T-shirts right now. By living in Pemberton, she has met her best friends and found a job as a Pemberton Hall Desk Assistant. She stated, “It is where all of my fondest college memories have been made” about Pemberton Hall. One of these memories happens to be her favorite memory while living on campus. Alana loves to celebrate the past year at the annual Pemberton Prom. She likes how the prom allows her to have a fun night with her friends.

Alana's advise for our #FuturePanthers is to “come to college with goals and aspirations, but allow yourself the freedom to let those goals change. College is all about growth and it is hard to do that if you only allow yourself to adventure down a single path. Explore anything that interests you and see what sticks!” We could not have said it better ourselves, Alana!

“The minute I stepped onto Eastern’s campus something within me just clicked into place. It was like my heart knew it belonged here in Charleston.” Alana explained when asked why she chose EIU. She enjoys how close the faculty are with the students and how the class room size encourages it. Most of all, she loves how much school spirit everyone has. #GoEIUPanthers

“Coming to Eastern has been the best choice of my life so far, and even in my senior year I am excited for the adventures that lie ahead of me here.” Congratulations, Alana! We are ecstatic to have you here at #EIU and hope for you have more amazing experiences on campus.

Say hello to DreQuan Green, our #ResidentOfEIU for the week!

DreQuan is from Cario, Illinois and is majoring in Computer Science. He is a Senior who is involved with Ford Hall Council. He is also involved with the “Alternative Television and Film Club (Alt-TV)” and works with the Art Department in Doudna.

DreQuan says living on campus and getting involved helped him feel more connected to EIU. “When I first came to EIU my freshman year, I only knew my roommate who I went to high school with. Being on campus allowed me to be updated on events at campus easier, connect with members of the hall, and be involved with my hall council. That has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people and have amazing experiences that helped me grow. Since I am a computer science major, I appreciate the quick and easy access to EIU’s resources to help me complete assignments for class. Also since I live at Ford Hall, it makes getting to work at Doudna a lot easier.”

DreQuan wants to share this advice for #FuturePanthers “Make sure you make time for yourself, both physically and mentally. College can be stressful at times, so make sure you are staying healthy, while of course, keeping up with your school work. A happy and healthy Panther is the one of best kinds of Panther.”

We are proud of DreQuan and all of his great work on campus! Also, this photo of DreQuan is at our Student Leadership Banquet hosted by EIU RHA and EIU NRHH where DreQuan represented Ford Hall when Ford won the Educational Program of the Year Award titled “Don’t “Dis” Their Abilities.” Great work!

#RealPanthersLiveOn

Meet Sam Gilbert, this week’s #ResidentofEIU and one of our recipients of the Careers in Housing and Student Affairs Scholarship! Sam is a senior majoring in Political Science and minoring in Pre-Law Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Sam is a Resident Assistant in Ford Hall, Senior Vice-President of our own EIU NRHH, and a Social Justice League member. In addition to her great on campus involvement, Sam is also a studious panther! She is part of the Sandra & Jack Pine Honors College and has Departmental Honors in Political Science.

When asked about living on campus, Sam said, “Eastern felt like home from the moment I first arrived for a campus tour, and still provides that same warmth to this day. The variety in housing allows you to find a space where you will truly thrive, especially because of how close the halls are to resources and food. There are people in my life who have changed me for the better, and that would not have happened had I chose to not live on campus.” She suggests that #FuturePanthers have a lot to learn during their time at EIU, “Even if you do not know what it is you are looking for, Eastern will reveal paths for adventure, growth, and success — but, it is up to you to take the first leap.”

Thank you for all of your hard work in EIU Housing and around campus Sam!

It's Friday, which means its time for our latest Resident of EIU! Meet Caitlyn Atwood, a junior from Blue Mound, IL. Caitlyn is majoring in marketing and minoring in Asian studies with a concentration in Chinese studies. She has been a part of the Honors College, Phi Eta Sigma, Asian American Association, and Esperanza. Caitlyn has worked for the department as a Desk Assistant, Night Assistant, and Marketing Assistant. This summer she will also work for the department as a Conference Assistant!

Caitlyn has lived in Thomas Hall and University Court Apartments. Thomas Hall is where Caitlyn met her best friends, and loves that University Court gives her a more independent experience while still allowing her to be close to campus and her friends. Caitlyn has a fun move in day memory to share:

"My most memorable memory would have to be when my father walked into one of my floormates’ room to see how her room was set up on move-in day of my freshman year. My dad did not even knock just waltz right in, which is so like him. I was so nervous about how she and her family would react to this, but they were completely fine with it. They actually found it funny and gave me a box of cookies! This was the day that I meet one of my best friends. Ever since that day we have been almost inseparable even with our opposite and busy schedule. Because of my outgoing and stubbornly committed father, he made it easier for both of us to break from the nervousness about transitioning to college for we were not alone. We had each other and all of our other friends that we made after that day. I believe her and I’s friendship will last a lifetime and it’s all thanks to my dad!"

Caitlyn recommends that #FuturePanthers take advantage of all the opportunities and services available to them as soon as possible. Caitlyn's oldest niece wants to grow up and be a EIU Panther just like Caitlyn. #FuturePantherInTheMaking

It’s #ResidentofEIU!

Cadence is a junior from Cary, Illinois. She is studying elementary education with the early childhood enhancement and hopes to brighten the minds of young children by becoming a 1st or 2nd grade teacher!

Cadence is involved in Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Last semester, she was in charge of planning the Alumni Breakfast. She also works at the University Court Office as one of their Desk Assistants. “Becoming involved on campus has helped me meet new people and make new friends, and not just people that are in my major. I have friends that are completely different majors from me, and it can be refreshing spending time with them and hearing about their fields. In addition, being involved has helped me step out of my shell.” She also advises #FuturePanthers to get involved as soon as possible, for it allows you further your skills and knowledge for future purposes.

Cadence did not have a hard time deciding to go to #EIU three years ago. It all came down to how excited she got for all the opportunities she could do through Eastern. This made Eastern stand out from other universities. “And I still am happy that I picked EIU, especially since I've met amazing people that have helped me through tough times.”

When asked why she decided to live on campus, this was what Cadence had to say. “Living on campus helped me to make friends with my floor mates, and try new things. it was a great way to meet people freshman year when I didn't know anybody. When I lived in the dorms, I loved being able to just walk down the hall and go to my friends' rooms to hang out. Now that I live at University Court, I love that it gives me an experience of living in an apartment, without everything that comes with living off campus.”

This week's #ResidentofEIU is Shona Coleman, from Edison Park, Chicago, IL. She is working on her Masters in History and hopes to work in museum curation!

She was nominated for her involvement in #WellerHall Council by helping with their ROC-Fest window display and creating many fun activities with the executive board. Shona went more into depth about what she has done for Weller Hall Council from holding different positions, VP and Publication, and the boat race, which has been her "baby" for the past 5 1/2 years. They placed 3rd this year for the boat race! She has been involved with helping out the theatre productions, working on homecoming, and working special events at the REC Center over the years.

When asked what she likes about living on-campus, she responded, "Being in Weller, I am right next to my classes and the library. Everything a historian really needs. Living on campus has allowed me to meet new people from different backgrounds every year." Her most memorable moment at EIU has been when Shona portrayed Anne Bonny, a famous pirate, to teach kids in the community about pirate life at the Living History Program.

Shona has some great advice for #Futurepanthers, saying "Don't hide away!" Shona explained that your friends are out there waiting for you to meet them at one of the involvements offered at EIU! Shona also added, "Most of all, remember your not the only one who's a freshmen, everyone is in the same boat as you."

Shona, you are an amazing addition to the #EIUfamily and we congratulate you on being this week's ROE. Keep up the hard work. We look forward to seeing you gain more experiences and successes while with us!

Meet Allen Johanson, #EIUfamily! Allen is from Bartlett, IL and is a transfer student from Elgin Community College. He will be receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology.

Allen enjoys living on campus for it allows him to meet new friends that just live down the hall. Also, not having to worry about cooking and washing dishes allows him to focus more on his schoolwork and activities.

Allen's advice for #FuturePanthers is "to take your school work seriously, but don't let that be your life. Get involved on campus." Allen has enjoyed his experience while being involved in the Thomas Hall Council as its Campus Liaison and the Immanuel Lutheran Campus Ministry. Being the Campus Liaison for Thomas Hall, Allen helps "plan, organize, and host various events for our residents as well as other students on campus." Other than living in Thomas Hall, Allen has found several friends through his involvements at EIU. By being involved and making new friends, he was able to make many memories!

Allen's reasons for choosing to live on campus at EIU for "the campus was not overwhelming and the small class sizes allowed for professors to actually know me, so i wasn't just a name on an attendance sheet. I chose to live on campus because of the convenience of not having to commute daily to get to class, greater opportunities to meet people, and not having to make time to go to the grocery store to buy food and cook it." Allen explained to us.

Congratulations, Allen on being this week's #ResidentofEIU! Continue to make friends and memories while you are here at EIU.

Meet Valen Fulton, our latest #ResidentofEIU! Valen is studying art education with a minor in graphic design and psychology. She hopes to be an art therapist in a children's hospital and run her own t-shirt business. Valen is a part of the Eastern Illinois University IAEA & NAEA Student Chapter and Ford Hall council. She already has big plans for next year as EIU RHA's VP of Administrative Affairs and as a Prowl Leader.

Valen feels living on campus has helped her grow as a person and meet amazing new people. Living on and being involved has allowed her to see her full potential and grow as a person and student. She encourages #FuturePanthers to go out and do the same! Her favorite memory is getting involved in hall council and all the relationships she made from that experience.

You're doing amazing Valen! We look forward to seeing all the great things you do next year in your new positions.

Meet Julia Contreras, an environmental geography major with a broadcast meteorology minor, from Berwyn, IL. She is involved in Andrews Hall council and is the RHA Repersentative for Andrews!

When asked why she picked EIU and living on campus, Julia said, “EIU had everything that I needed to become a successful student."

When asked what advice she would like to give to the #FuturePanthers, Julia answered, “Believe in yourself and I promise you that everything will go well! Because in the end of the day great things will happen if you just believe.”
