Instead of trying to build something useful, exploratory engineering aims at figuring out whether something can be built in the first place, and some of its properties.

Torre de alta tensión de 156 metros de altura conformada por un mástil hueco de forma troncocónica. Su diseño hiperboloide es un modo poco convencional de construcción que se adoptó a finales de 1957 porque las fábricas de acero españolas no podían producir grandes vigas metálicas en aquel entonces (y la importación era imposible debido al régimen de Franco). Su curiosa estructura permitió invertir la tercera parte de material que se usaría, por ejemplo, con un diseño semejante al de la Torre Eiffel parisina.
