Hello again!

In total, Olympus is probably the brand I've owned the most individual cameras from. But it's definitely Pentax where I've bridged the most decades.

Recently I was sad to discover that my first DSLR the Pentax K-x was refusing to power up. www.flickr.com/photos/vox/4691528200/. Meanwhile I learned that secondhand prices on earlier "prosumer" DSLRs have really tumbled; so it made way more sense to pick up the very stout and feature-rich Pentax K-5 rather than repair the plasticky K-x (if that's even possible).

Alert readers will notice that this film Pentax H1a is not my original H1 in the other photo. This is a smidge younger and works perfectly, while the H1 has a problem and is moved to a display case.

The El Cortez was built in anticipation of increased divorce traffic after Reno's divorce law was liberalized in 1931. The residency period for those seeking a divorce in Reno was reduced from three months to six weeks, to boost the already lucrative divorce trade. El Cortez was one of several temporary residential complexes constructed during this time.

This map shows proposed changes to the Interstate 5 interchanges at Berkeley Street and Thorne Lane in Lakewood. It also shows a proposed connecting road between Gravelly Lake Drive and Thorne Lane. Roundabouts would replace signals at the ramp termini. More information will be available at the Tuesday, May 5 Open House held at the McGavick Conference Center, Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood. The Open House hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. No formal presentation will be made. This event is also intended to solicit public feedback and seek the public’s input on items you think should be studied during the NEPA environmental process for the proposed improvements. More information can be found online at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/JBLMImprovements/FuturePlans...

This map shows proposed changes to the I-5 interchange at Steilacoom-DuPont Road, Exit 119. Changes here would be significant, and include removing the existing interchange, build a new interchange further north, and relocate the JBLM DuPont Gate. Roundabouts would replace signals at these ramp termini. Learn more about this and other proposed changes at the May 5 Open House being held at the McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA. The V&A are undertaking their largest building project in over 100 years, to create a new courtyard, grand entrance and subterranean gallery for temporary exhibitions. Join the project team on the roof of the Museum to view the building site at a critical stage.

These buildnings are going to be placed 1 km up north from ehere the monument is standing.

The buildnings are pretty nice and it is taking the new yerevan to the older parts. When it's ready it would probbebly look very nice :)

John Madejski gave the V&A £2 million to create a new garden at the heart of the Museum. The John Madejski Garden opened on 5 July 2005 and is a central part of the V&A's FuturePlan.

Kim Wilkie's new design has transformed the garden. The Italianate courtyard is now a stylish, elegant place to meet and provides a central point from which to explore the museum. The main feature is a stone-paved oval, with surrounding steps and water jets, which can be filled with water as a reflecting pool or drained for displays.

Grass lawns and York stone paving surround the central oval. Glass planters contain lemon trees in summer and will contain clipped hollies in winter. The courtyard walls have been softened by plantings of blue hydrangeas as well as Salvia 'Enigma' and Dahlia 'David Howard'. The salvias will be an intense blue and the dahlias have orange flowers with dark purple/bronze foliage. There will be seasonal displays of plants such as echium, foxtails, irises, lilies and spring bulbs.

The restoration of the Eva, a historic wooden gillnetter at Finn Slough, is a heartfelt effort to preserve one of British Columbia’s last living links to its Finnish fishing heritage.

️ Restoration Highlights

• Built: 1937 at Suzuki Brothers Boat Yard

• Materials: Western Red Cedar, Yellow Cedar, and Douglas Fir—chosen for durability and beauty

• Engine: Original two-cylinder Easthope gasoline engine, a West Coast legend for its distinctive “make and break” sound

🔄 Her Journey

• Originally owned by Finnish fisherman Henry Jacobson, later passed to his nephew Gus Jacobson

• In 1997, Al Mason—shipwright and model builder—traded a working scale model of the Eva for the real vessel

• Mason later entrusted her to the Finn Slough Heritage and Wetlands Society, ensuring her legacy would be protected

🎨 Restoration Work

• Paint Job: The Eva is receiving a fresh coat of paint to protect her hull

and revive her classic look

• Upgrades: Local resident Kevin has improved her moorings and other structural elements

• Future Plans: Dry dock repairs, engine restoration, and possibly turning her into a centerpiece for a living museum

🌊 Why It Matters

• The Eva is likely the only vessel ever exchanged for an exact replica of herself—a testament to her cultural value

• She represents the sisu spirit of Finn Slough: resilience, craftsmanship, and community pride

Thank you for your visit and any faves or comments are always greatly appreciated!

Not sure that buying two mahonias for our small front garden was the best idea. Was aiming for winter fragrance but if they don't deliver, they'll be gone.

Red shows varous possible projects for the Bosque Village earthworks. It would be too expensive to do them all now, but this plan lets us know where not to plants, and where we can best harvest native plants for offsite reforestation projects.
