On the left wall of the house is a portrait of Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811), and on the right wall is a quote by Kurt Hiller: "To brood over the future is the surest means of thwarting it."
Kurt Hiller (1885-1972) was born in Berlin and is considered a pioneer and important theorist of Literary Expressionism. He was strongly committed to the abolition of criminal prosecution of homosexual men, was a committed pacifist, and advocated for liberal socialism. Because of his political views, as well as his homosexuality and Jewish origins, he was persecuted by the Nazis and imprisoned three times in various concentration camps. In 1934, he managed to escape to Czechoslovakia and from there, in 1938, to Great Britain just in time. Ten years after the end of the war, he returned to Germany and lived in Hamburg until his death.

Er engagierte sich stark für die Abschaffung der strafrechtlichen Verfolgung homosexueller Männer, war überzeugter Pazifist und setzte sich für einen freiheitlichen Sozialismus ein. Sowohl wegen seiner politischen Gesinnung, als auch wegen seiner Homosexualität und jüdischen Herkunft wurde er von den Nazis verfolgt und dreimal in verschiedenen Konzentrationslagern inhaftiert. Im Jahr 1934 gelang ihm die Flucht in die Tschechoslowakei und von dort 1938 gerade noch rechtzeitig die Flucht nach Großbritanien. Zehn Jahre nach Kriegsende kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück und lebte bis zu seinem Tod in Hamburg.

... knowing that we know how fossils are created, and how that process is a once in million ... and how fleeting life is, we should be putting items from our time period in sediments so that future intelligence will be able to find millions of years from now evidence of our existence after we are long gone.
Need to go bury things in the right sediments now :)

Have just returned from incredible China. Here's Shanghai, the city that impresses much. Of course, it looks futuristic and powerful. But I'm not sure if I like such a future.
