Paws for thought… Portrait of a beautiful Sand Cat. In the wild these cats inhabit sandy and stony deserts far from water sources. With its sandy to light grey fur it is well camouflaged in a desert environment. The Sand Cat usually rests in underground dens during the day and hunts at night.
This captive example was seen at Exmoor Zoo.

Pika is a small mountain-dwelling mammal with short limbs, very round body, and even coat of fur, and no external tail, they resemble a their close cousin the rabbit, but with shorter ears. They prefer Rocky slopes and graze on mostly grasses, flowers and young stems. In Autumn they stores food in their burrows to eat during the long cold winters.

The impressive remains of Furness Abbey founded by Stephen, later King of England, includies much of the east end and west tower of the church, the ornately decorated chapter house and the cloister buildings.
Founded almost 900 years ago, Furness Abbey was once the largest and wealthiest monastery in north-west England. A place of prayer, piety and pilgrimage, the abbey was also a major landowner, its abbot occupying an important place in the administration of the region.
English Heritage is carrying out emergency conservation work to stop the ruined Abbey church sinking into the soft ground. This follows earlier routine inspections which revealed serious cracks in the walls. Medieval masons used large pieces of oak in the foundations and after 500 years, this timber is now gradually giving way.
While excavating the grave of a prosperous medieval abbot, a hoard of medieval treasures was discovered at Furness Abbey. This discovery unearthed the first crozier (a staff with a crook on top) to be excavated in Britain in over 50 years and an impressive gemstone ring was also found.
Before the sun shone directly on the water in the morning and outshone it, I "played" a bit with exposure times and details.
The water has such a high falling speed that 1/8 to 1/10 exposure time is sufficient to make it soft and yet with a certain movement.

Black and white re-edit of a shot from December 2017. Of course the original show why I decided to edit in colour the first time around but I still love black and white photography. I especially love the texture of the fur and the catchlights in her eyes. Enjoy!
The Psychedelic Furs were a New Wave band in the early 80's, their name was the first that popped into my head when having to do an image that represented a music band.
They were one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, to later touching on new wave and hard rock.
The band had several hits in their early career, including Heaven and Dumb Waiters. In 1986, filmmaker John Hughes used their song "Pretty in Pink" for his film of the same name.
The photo wasn't planned but it works well for this week's Happy Caturday theme "Brushing or Petting" and so I post two cat photos today. There aren't many hands which Tofu accepts on his fur. The one in this photo belongs to my nephew Hendrik who at the moment lives in the room behind this window. Cats generally like Hendrik a lot and they all appear on his windowsill quite often. :) Happy Caturday !

Die Tage lieferten die beiden Wiebeloks Nr. 9 (92 80 1 211 045-0 D-BLP) und 8 (92 80 1 211 015-3 D-BLP) mit einen Teil der Gerätschaften für die Baustelle Kempten- Immenstadt für die Woche nach Ostern. Lautstark kämpften sie sich dabei mit DGS 95698 Donauwörth- Kempten die Günzacher Steige hoch wo sie bei Görwangs erwartet wurden.

Walburgiskapelle Weschnitz - Erntedank oder privates Thanksgiving?
Die Walburgiskapelle befindet sich im Wald auf dem Kahlberg, einer historischen Stelle, an der Kaiser Karl der Große im Jahr 795 die Grenzen seines Reiches und die der Mark Heppenheim festlegte.
Schon im 16 Jh. ist an diesem Platz eine Kapelle nachgewiesen - wann sie erstmals gebaut wurde, weiß man nicht.
Die Kapelle ist der heiligen Walburga geweiht, die eine Nichte des Missionars Bonifatius gewesen sein soll. Manche glauben, der Platz könnte zuvor ein keltisches und germanisches Bergheiligtum gewesen sein. In der Tat widmeten christliche Missionare oft heidnische Kultplätze um, statt sie zu zerstören.
Für die Kelten-These spricht, dass man Reste von Erzbergbau gefunden hat, den schon die Kelten betrieben.
Auch heute noch finden Wallfahrten zu dieser Kapelle statt - ein magischer Platz mit einer fantastischen Aussicht.
The Walburgis Chapel is located in the forest on the Kahlberg, a historical spot where Emperor Charlemagne defined the borders of his empire and the Mark Heppenheim in 795.
There is evidence of a chapel on this site as early as the 16th century - no one knows when it was first built.
The chapel is dedicated to St. Walburga, who is said to have been a niece of the missionary Boniface. Some believe the site may have previously been a Celtic and Germanic mountain sanctuary. Indeed, Christian missionaries often rededicated pagan places of worship rather than destroying them.
The Celtic thesis is supported by the fact that remains of ore mining, which the Celts already operated, have been found.
Pilgrimages to this chapel still take place today - a magical place with a fantastic view.

Praktisch täglich verkehrt der Stahlzug 48962 von Linz Stahlwerke nach Dingolfing und weiter nach Ingolstadt. Mit dieser Verbindung werden Blechcoils für die Automobilproduktion zu den Werken und Produktionsabfälle zum Einschmelzen bei der Voest Alpine transportiert. Standardlok für diesen Zug ist die 193 250 von CargoServ, die auch für den Auftraggeber wirbt. Am 10. Oktober 2021 konnte ich die Leistung kurz hinter Kallham in Oberösterreich fotografieren.
Steel train 48962 runs practically every day from Linz steelworks to Dingolfing and on to Ingolstadt. This connection transports sheet metal coils for car production to the plants and production waste for melting down at Voest Alpine. The standard locomotive for this train is CargoServ's 193 250, which also advertises for the client. On 10 October 2021, I was able to photograph the service shortly after Kallham in Upper Austria.
