Not really my first time, probably my second time i went to a outdoor funfair. Took some 'extreme' ride while my sis outdone me by more 'extreme' rides. I wonder how these kids stand such rides while one ride alone can already cause me to puke.
Well, it was good. And i don't see many of this funfair around nowadays.
As I approched a strip of wasteground turned into a makeshift funfair, the word EVOLUTION swung into view on the side of a giant see-saw style ride. There is no stopping China rushing headlong into the future.
The 'Roller' ride was surprisingly secure - everybody was shut into what amounted to small cages. I guess this was because a standard lap bar would allow too much movement and possibly injury.
so i managed to grab myself an olympus xa last year. it's the first time i've had a rangefinder camera and just to make sure it worked i fired off a roll of film. it was really underwhelming -- the colours were muddy and i found the rangefinder took a lot of getting used to, so some of the shots were pretty soft and just not that great really. like i think i've said here before, i find the lomography/toy camera aesthetic tricky sometimes. i have a lomo, and i used to use it pretty often, and yes sometimes it would take astounding pictures, but for the most part i found it far too random in its effects. i really got sick of burning money getting film developed to find only a handful of OK shots on a roll of 36. and on the basis of the test roll i feared the XA might turn out to be just like that. thing is, when i am walking with my camera sometimes i see something i want to photograph *right then* and be sure it turns out, and so this means having to walk around with 2 cameras, and even though i like big handbags it gets a bit silly sometimes. i had my bag searched at customs in montreal a few months ago and the customs guy expressed surprise that i had *three* cameras in my bag. "what is *wrong* with you?" he said. ahem.
anyway gosh this is a bit of a digression isn't it. this is the second roll from the XA and i wasn't expecting much. this was the first shot i saw out of the envelope and i was so happy with it. now i see the potential of this little camera. i'm almost as excited about this as i am about the fisheye.
