Shahrisabz funfair.
I have mixed feelings about these photos. I love funfairs. I follow the fete foraine circuit in my area of France with my camera and know some of the showmen. But here in Shahrisabz, a medieval cityscape has been destroyed to make way for this funfair and a huge park, leaving the historic monuments marooned in a Disneyland of manicured lawns and jolly amusements. The mahallas with their ancient houses and green spaces were completely bulldozed. What is left has no character; it's as if you took Norwich, and destroyed all the buildings except the cathedral, the castle, and City Hall, replacing them by a medieval-themed sculpture park. A disaster. Uzbekistan has destroyed something that's irreplaceable. And UNESCO hasn't been able to do anything about it at this UNESCO listed heritage site.
I think this needs more saturation on the ride, but I like movement between the elements. To me, he looks like he's about to jump in it!
Taken without a tripod. I deliberately left it at home so as not to draw attention to myself. Some of the people who visit the fair look like they eat glass for breakfast. I wanted to make sure I kept myself and my camera safe. :)

I found this one in my archive retrieved from a crashed hard drive. I had intended to submit it to CC2000 but never did, so it's found it's way to the 777 Group instead! Taken at the Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2005 with a Fuji 'Bridge' camera and cropped slightly.
The rather garish Bavarian Fun House. Not sure what fun goes on there, plotting another beer hall putsch perhaps?

This ride slowly swung you from side to side, getting higher each time, until it was vertical... it hung straight up for a few seconds then dropped the other side. Even though I was a bit away I could hear the screams lol
