This photo taken 26 June 1974 at Perry Barr - a Harpers Leyland Titan / Northern Counties on a heavily laden evening peak journey bound for Cannock.
Walsall Corporation and Harper Brothers, in 1965, had to fight for the right to run buses from the BCT "iron curtain" boundary at Kingstanding into Birmingham. The right was only gained after some agreement to pay "compensation" (extortion) to BCT was made before the Traffic Commissioner.
Prior to this passengers had to get off Harpers and Walsall buses at Kingstanding and get on a BCT bus for the rest of their journey.
Harper Brothers of Heath Hayes (post code WS12) sold out to Midland Red in 1974. Midland Red particularly were interested in the busy Cannock to Birmingham service.
Under Midland Red ownership fares rose, passenger numbers declined and Midland Red's successor Arriva ceased to operate on this route into Birmingham.

While the Kenworth K108 might be the current king of the road in terms of linehaul operations, there is a new challenger to the throne from within Kenworth’s ranks.
The new K200, revealed exclusively to transport journalists in Alice Springs last week before its public launch, builds on the core elements of the K108 and offers them in a refined package.
While the new model does not go on sale until April 1 next year – when the K108 will be retired – Kenworth is taking the opportunity to launch the new model now, with fleet testing of ‘seed models’ beginning in September.
The new cab over, complete with Cummins ISX engine and a choice of Eaton manual or the Ultrashift Plus auto transmission, is rated to over 600 horsepower, yet is able to meet the stringent new ADR 80/03 emission regulations.
While the model on display at Alice Springs retains the infamous ‘up and across’ entry to the cab, sales and marketing manager Andrew Hadjikakou says the final version will “have some changes” in this area, with rumours persisting of swing out steps similar to the Freightliner Argosy.
While the basic shape is similar to the K108, in reality the new model is 50mm higher, with the extra space accommodating a refined engine cooling package to deal with the demands of ADR 80/03.
Under the skin is a new charge air cooler, moulded fan shroud and a nine-blade fan, all working on reducing heat stress on the engine, while revised auxiliary coolers are relocated to reduce shadowing, where airflow is prevented from reaching the coolers.
Drivers will also appreciate the additional heat and noise shielding between the cab floor and the engine bay, which is expected to make the K200 the quietest Kenworth cab over model to roll off the production line.
Driver comfort is also more advanced than ever before, with a greater use of soft plush vinyl and recessed panels, as well as a fresh contemporary range of new trim colours, including Shiraz and charcoal.
The display model used KAB suspension seats for both driver and passenger, while the driver’s seat now aligns with the steering wheel, providing 30mm more shoulder room and more passenger leg room.
The new cab floor is almost flat, with a lower engine tunnel. Although tall drivers will touch the roof they will be able to stand upright in the aerodyne version.
The gearshift has a wider gate for easier shifts. A fold-away gear lever allows easy access to the sleeper area, as well as the two 30 litre fridges or storage drawers mounted under the bunk.
I don't like the round grill, its just not the original KW grill anymore :-(
My well seasoned M6 Millennium with the double shoe adapter and the finder (here a 12mm one) and the Voigtlander Spirit Level. You can see the "bubble" by just shifting the eye slightly - no need to drop the camera and try to figure out a "regular" spirit bubble level.

Zo'n pick-up is niet alleen handig door zijn grote laadbak waar je alles in kan gooien, deze zowat klassieke pick-ups zijn nog cool ook. Bovenstaand model is een oude Toyota Hilux, volgeladen met aardappelen.

A pick-up is not only very functional because of its large cargo body where you can throw everything in. These almost classic pick-ups are pretty cool too! The model above is an old Toyota Hilux, fully loaded with potatoes.

Arrived at my sister's house with a gift. The beer only rode about 10 blocks from the grocery store.

On the way to Hampi from Hospet, we'd stopped at a shop when this lad and his pals ran over to the new wallets in town screaming "Rupee! Rupee!". Now this usually left us in an uncomfortable situation as ethically, you shouldn't give begging children money/sweets/toys/pens (or whatever else it is they're asking for this time, maybe one day one'll ask for "Playstation! Playstation!") as it will encourage further begging when they're older. The situation completely changed though when he pulled out his party trick for a friend and we showed interest. To spin a top on the floor then catch it on his hand after making it do some acrobatics whilst STILL spinning was pretty darn cool. In appreciating his spinning top skills the boy's mind changed. No longer were we the next sweet ticket, we were someone who appreciated him, which turned him into the cutest kid next door. For the next few minutes he wowed his new pals and let me take a few snaps. As we bid farewell, I know what you're thinking- "He asked for cash"- but he didn't, he just seemed a chuffed lad as he waved us eagerly goodbye.

No Porsche before this one has ridden so serenely by supplying this level of body control. The Porsche 997 Carrera S returns some things that were presumed lost. Can the next 911 possibly provide more? Yes, the new Porsche 991 can, however this late 2009 997 Carrera S Coupé is very tempting. The data:
- Hubraum: 3.800 ccm
- Leistung: 283 kW / 385 PS
- Antrieb: Heckantrieb
- Schaltung: Manuell
- Farbe: Macadamiametallic
- Innenausstattung: Lederausstattung inkl. Sitze in Sonderfarbe Cocoa
- Kilometerstand: 21.500 km
- Erstzulassung: 12/2009
- Vorbesitzer: 1
- Preis: 72.900 € (MwSt. ausweisbar)
- Features: 19-Zoll Turbo Rad/ Schaltgetriebe/ Sport Chrono Paket Plus
- 3 Years Porsche Approved Warranty ensures a complete peace of mind
The new 991 has more grip than the 997, but the new electro-mechanical steering system does have a few issues though. The experts reckon the 991 is not as communicative and doesn’t feel as lively as previous 911s (997) have.

Gokarna, amongst other things, was a haven for stray animals, sacred cows included. Most of the cows found wandering on highways, rummaging through rubbish piles or snoozing on beaches are without owner. They were sneaky & savvy creatures. On the beach they harrassed picnickers for snacks & one even stole a bunch of bananas from us at the market.
