I went climbing in the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down, Northern Ireland on Thursday morning. Amazing!
Ive never climbed them before but seen them in the distance many times. They really are stunning. Wild and remote and historic and there is something very spiritual about them and walkers return to them time after time. I didnt find them easy to climb but Id honestly drag myself up there on my elbows if I had to. I got there very early and all I had for company on the way up Slieve Donard were the sheep and the cheeky ravens watching my every move and delighting in riding the thermals and showing off. I did the climb on my own but I would advise people to go with others. I almost got into trouble myself. Im fairly used to the wilds and will certainly go back up there again in a few week if the weather holds. The hike took me 5 hours and it about 14km if you stop evey 5 minutes to take pics like I do!!!
The view is of ascending through the Glen River Valley with Thomas`s Mountain { 460m } on the left and the wonderful Slieve Comedagh {765m} on the right.

If you're not coming together there is place enough :-)
Taken yesterday morning while sitting outside a café in the nearby market town of Aups enjoying my first coffee outside the house in two months. It was wonderful! 11 November is a Public Holiday in France for Armistice Day
I saw these birds a lot the last years but never made a decent shot. Fridaymorning this guy suddenly landed in front of me on a pole. Such a nice bird with a very recognizable sound, some people compare it with the 5th symphony of Beethoven.....
On the way to the school bus stop at 7 am! Just starting to get light, and a lovely moon with a fine mist over the landscape.......
Taken from the car!

Well mountains is maybe a bit overdone ;), but in the very south of our country there is a small piece with hills, almost Undutch if you know that 99% of our country is completely flat and for a big part beneath sea level. Fridaymorning was a beautiful morning with a nice sunrise.

One of Ernest Hemmingway's favorite local bars
Duval Street - Key West, Florida U.S.A. - 6:48 AM
*[left-double-click for a closer-look - taken before sunrise]
This famed street is a beautiful confluence of art and culture,
history and heritage, exuberant celebrations, and a dash of
debauchery. Hey, these bars jam until 4 a.m. and there are
more than 100 bars in 15 blocks! There are more 'bars' per-
capita on Key West than in any other city in the United States!

Ernest Hemingway's favorite bar and daily local hangout
back in the day - Duval Street - Key West, FL U.S.A. - 6AM
We have enjoyed many great nights here with friends and
food and drink during our annual pilgrimage over 45+ years...
Sloppy Joe's Bar is a historic American bar in Key West, Florida.
The bar went through two name changes before settling on Sloppy Joe's with the encouragement of Hemingway. The name was taken from the original Sloppy Joe's bar in Old Havana, that sold both liquor and iced seafood. In the high Cuban heat, the ice melted
and patrons taunted the owner José (Joe) García Río that he ran
a "sloppy" place. It's the favorite fun bar of both locals and tourists.
(It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 11/1/06)

I've just discovered this made it into Explore on Dec 11, ranked at 121. Not bad for a random morning shot taken quickly after stepping off my bus with my point and shoot.
It was also in the 'most interestingness for the last 7 days'. It kind of explains why I'm getting so many comments and favs from people I've never heard of.
Hello to all you people I don't know. Thanks for stopping by :)
Update, this has now been bumped up to #30 on Explore for Dec 11
Not really... This is at 5:55 AM before the sunrise, but over the last ten months (during the pandemic) it has been closed numerous times! But it is back open again to the delight of tourists and locals alike, for it is our favorite bar and hangout! Long Live Sloppy Joe's!

We're in there every night! They have the best bands on the island that come here from all over the country. When I talk to them in between sets, they all say they're here for one reason; it's not the money, it's to get out of the cold and have some fun! Rock On!

Photo of the day December 23, 2022 - Camellia blossom, my wife and I have this flowering tree on the edge of our property. The flower is also known as the rose of winter, and I look forward to it's blossoms each winter.

Best seen on black, so hit the "L" key
So it's Friday morning and I thought it would be a good idea to get up nice and early (5am) and head into the city to see if I can't get some sunrise shots of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. It didn't turn out to be anything epic but I was lucky enough to get a few clouds passing over Big Ben which caught the suns rays as it rose above the horizon turning them a pink.

OK, so I have done a little photoshop to boost the contrast in the sky. But on Friday I am looking out of the window and notice the clouds moving very fast. It was a typical sky for this area, a kind of low blanket with a smooth flowing texture. Then this block of rough stuff came through, lasted about twenty minutes and then went back to the smooth stuff.
Fascinating, if like me, you like dramatic skies.
