Die Langen Foundation ist eine 2002 gegründete private Kunststiftung. Sie widmet sich der Kunstsammlung von Marianne und Viktor Langen. Die Stiftung unterhält ein von dem japanischen Architekten Tadao Ando entworfenes Ausstellungsgebäude auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen NATO-Raketenstation bei Neuss.

I went to two photo museums while in Paris. This was one of them.

"Das Museum für Architekturzeichnung liegt auf dem Gelände des Pfefferbergs in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. Das Areal wurde 1848 für die Brauerei Pfefferberg erschlossen und weist eine wechselvolle Geschichte auf.
Seit 1990 haben sich in den meist unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Gebäuden Kultureinrichtungen, Galerien und Künstlerateliers angesiedelt.
Gefärbter Beton und Glas bilden die Fassaden des Gebäudes, eine Kombination, die unter verschiedenen Aspekten kontrastreich und vielschichtig ist.
Sowohl die plastische Gestaltung des Betons als auch seine Herstellung und der konstruktive Einsatz sind bemerkenswert und prägen neben der Kubatur das außergewöhnliche Erscheinungsbild des Museums.
Die geschlossene Gebäudeoberfläche ist dekoriert mit stark vergrößerten Fragmenten architektonischer Skizzen in Reliefform. Die überdimensionierten Linienzeichnungen verweisen auf die Nutzung des Gebäudes als Ausstellungsort und Archiv.
An vielen Stellen im Inneren des Museums kehren die Gestaltungselemente der Fassade wieder und manifestieren den Designcode des Hauses; diesem Prinzip folgen auch die eigens entworfenen Türbeschläge..."

Das von der Sammlerin Marianne Langen initiierte und gestiftete Ausstellungshaus liegt auf einer ehemaligen NATO-Basis inmitten der niederrheinischen Landschaft.
Auf Einladung von Karl-Heinrich Müller besuchte der japanische Architekt Tadao Ando 1994 die Raketenstation und sah diese in ihrem Urzustand. Begeistert von Müllers Plänen, entwickelte er ein Architekturmodell, das ebenfalls Teil des Projektes wurde. Als Marianne Langen Tadao Andos Pläne im Jahr 2001 zum ersten Mal sah, entschied sie sich sehr schnell, dieses Haus als das letzte und größte Kunstwerk ihrer Sammlung bauen zu lassen. Ihrer Maxime entsprechend, verzichtete sie auf jegliche Fördermittel von Dritten.
Tadao Andos ausgeprägte Vorliebe für Beton und sein Gespür für das Spezifische des Ortes bestimmen auch seinen Entwurf für die Langen Foundation. So verwendete er Beton, Glas und Stahl und passte das Gebäude in die topographischen Gegebenheiten der umlaufenden Wälle ein.

Here are a few of the 13 million bricks in Ft. Pulaski. How many modern masons could do this? A young Robert E. Lee was here as a 2nd Lieutenant during construction. The Howitzer cannons at Ft. Pulaski, a number of which can still be seen, were smooth-bore guns. When Union forces attacked with rifled Howitzers, the fort fell in less than two days.
Pink-headed knotweed ( Persicaria capitate grows along the foundation and on the grout of the Casa do Cantoneiro which sits along the road to the Caldera of Faial on the island of Faial in the Azores. The flower, originally introduced to the Azores as an ornamental plant, is native to the Himalayas. It escaped cultivation and is now considered an invasive plant.
The building, originally built to house road maintenance workers (cantoneiros), has been repurposed as an interpretation center for the Caldera within Faial Nature Park (Parque Natural do Faial).

The foundation and silo stand firm, but the barn fell many years ago. Part of the roof lays adjacent to the foundation.

This B-25D Mitchell nicknamed 'Grumpy' is the oldest production B-25 still flying in the world. The paint job looked it, too! While everyone loved the look, an airplane that sees all kinds of Washington weather needs a good solid coat of paint as protection from the elements, so this old bird is getting a fresh coat. This was my last opportunity to photograph 'Grumpy' in 25-year-old paint (at least for another 25 years!).
Downs Road Boatyard, Blackwater River, Maldon. The Foundation provides training and apprenticeships to keep heritage boatbuilding craft skills alive: such as rigging, metalworking, engineering and woodworking. Currently the apprentices are involved in the restoration of the 'Torbay Lass' built in 1923 and one of the last Brixham Trawlers to be built. The rebuild of Torbay Lass is managed by a lead shipwright with 6 young people getting hands on experience of rebuilding a 102-year-old wooden sailing vessel. Taken with a Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1.
