Symbole de la ville de Fossano, le château se dresse derrière la rue centrale Via Roma . Aujourd'hui il est entouré d'une grande place. Sa construction marque un tournant dans l'histoire de la ville. Au début du XIVe siècle, pour se protéger des attaques des puissances voisines, les Fossanais firent un acte de soumission aux Acaja, la branche cadette des Savoie. A cause de cette soumission, le prince s'engagea à construire à ses frais une forteresse achevée en 1332: Quatre tours à plan carré s'élevaient vers le ciel, reliées par des rideaux crénelés; un large fossé entourait la forteresse sur trois côtés et était traversé par un pont-levis. Après l'extinction des Acaja, les possessions passèrent aux Savoie qui, vers 1485, promurent la transformation du château en palais ; à partir de ce moment, la structure sera principalement utilisée comme résidence.

Aujourd'hui, le château est une attraction touristique fondamentale pour la ville et il est la toile de fond des événements les plus fréquentés et suggestifs, parmi lesquels l'historique Giostra dell'Oca, qui rappelle le passage à Fossano de Carlo Emanuele I et de l'Infante d'Espagne Caterina de Habsbourg, qui a eu lieu en 1585 à l'occasion de leur voyage de noces de la péninsule ibérique à Turin.

La via Roma traverse toute la vieille ville de Fossano, du sud (sur la photo) au nord. On y trouve la cathédrale, de nombreux magasins, et le piéton dispose, d'un côté comme de l'autre, de larges arcades où circuler sans risque.
Alle prime luci di una mattina di luglio, la Vectron LocoItalia (InRail) transita nelle campagne ravennati con il MRV 50299 proveniente da Fossano e diretto a Ravenna. Le tramogge verranno caricate di cereali sia alla Docks Cereali, che alla Setramar (entrambe collocate al porto San Vitale), per poi essere nuovamente inoltrate allo stabilimento Veronesi di Fossano.
At the first light of a July morning, the Vectron LocoItalia (InRail) passes through the Ravenna countryside with the MRV 50299 coming from Fossano and heading for Ravenna. The hoppers will be loaded with cereals both at Docks Cereali and at Setramar (both located at the San Vitale port), to be then forwarded again to the Veronesi plant in Fossano.
Avvolta in un fitto vestito di neve, la val vermenagna e la ferrovie delle meraviglie si presentano in uno spettacolo invernale la mattina dell'8 gennaio 2021. Il termometro raggiunse -13°C e la neve era più farinosa che mai.
Sul meraviglioso viadotto rivoira, la E464.534 nel suo vestito "ibrido" si impegna nel trainare le sue tre vetture media distanza sulla rampa nord del tenda. Prossima fermata: Limone Piemonte.

On january 8th, 2021 the Vermenagna-valley and the Marvellous Tenda-Railway Line presented itself under a white mantle of snow. The temperature lowered around -13 degrees celsius, and literally everything was freezed. The E464.534 with its "hybrid" dress showed up with the Fossano-Limone regional service, passing the 300m long and around 40m high "Rivoira" viaduct, located between Vernante and Limone.
Nella giornata odierna. EVM Rail ha iniziato il servizio della D744.017 rinominata "Giulia". Dopo alcune ore di ritardo, la locomotiva si è spinta da Busca fino a Fossano e ritorno, per l'abilitazione dei giovani macchinisti di EVM Rail. La vediamo transitare nella stazione di Roata Rossi.
For the first time, EVM Rail's D744.017 has taken service. With an Instruction run, the new diesel locomotive went from Busca to Fossano via Cuneo and back. In the picture, the white-green engine was passing Roata Rossi station, on a beautiful day on Winter.
Il treno Fossano-Ravenna di Inrail, trainato dalla E191.104 e seguito dalle tramogge Veronesi, transita sul Viadotto sullo Stura di Demonte, sulla linea Torino-Savona. Il treno è deviato in via eccezionale via Ceva-San Giuseppe-Savona a causa dei lavori che interessano la tratta tra Fossano e Trofarello.

Il treno di Silice trainato dalla E191.004 di InRail, operato da FuoriMuro, proveniente da Borgo San Dalmazzo e diretto a Portogruaro transita tra i campi dell'altopiano Cuneese nei pressi di Centallo, in direzione Fossano. Sullo sfondo il gruppo della Bisalta con il Monte Besimauda (2.231m slm) e Monte Bric Costa Rossa (2.404m slm) sulla sinistra e la Rocca dell'Abisso (2.755m slm) sulla destra.

Il viadotto Scarassoui è una delle opere che a mio avviso riesce a conciliare una valle di origine antica con un'architettura moderna ma che si incastra perfettamente nel paesaggio.
il 21 Agosto 2016 ci passò la ormai Consueta Doppia di Minuetti (MD091+MD001) con il Regionale Mattutino da Fossano per Ventimiglia, passando su questo maestoso capolavoro situato nei pressi del paesino di Berghe Superiore
The Scarassoui Viaduct is on e of the most significant bridges on the "Tenda"-Railway Between Cuneo and Ventimiglia/Nice. It's a great symbol of modernity that fits perfecly in the old shapes of the Roya-Canyon. On the 21st of August, the Regional train made by two Trenitalia Minuetto DMU's passed over this wonderpiece of modern art and Engineering southbound to Ventimiglia.
Regional train 22974 Limone Piemonte (15:32) - Fossano (16:36) pushed by E464.132 is passing Maddalene station at the Golden hour. This kind of shot is only possible in the last weeks of December, when the Sun is about to disappear behind the Cottian Alps.
Con un Regionale Fossano-Limone, la E464.064 con le sue tre vetture, di cui due in livrea DPR, attraversa il torrente Gesso tra Borgo San Dalmazzo e Roccavione, in una limpida mattinata di primavera.

La E191.042 entra sul binario 1 della stazione di Russi affrontando la lunga curva d'entrata alla stazione.
Breve precedenza e poi il treno con le tipiche nacco gialle ripartirà in direzione Fossano.
È diventato raro ormai vedere una composizione di sole vetture e locomotive XMPR, ancor di più di Vetture MDVE non Revampizzate, con i finestrini ancora apribili. Altrettanto raro è vedere la E464.003 ex Palermo in giro per il Piemonte. In un punto foto recentemente pulito, questa magnifica e pulita (!) composizione transita tra Roccavione e Robilante, con un Regionale Fossano-Limone.
It became rare to see such train compositions like this one, XMPR and with two unmodernized coaches with openable windows. It's also rare to see an Ex-Palermitan locomotive like the E464.003 riding around the Mountains of Piedmont. In a recently accessible photo-spot, it was possible to spot this composition between Roccavione and Robilante as a Regional Train from Fossano to Limone.
Uno dei primi Tigroni, o forse proprio il primo, con il nuovo logo Mercitalia Rail, pulito e riverniciato, in transito poco prima di Portogruaro con un convoglio di tramogge provenienti da Villa Opicina e destinate a Fossano.

Fin dai tempi immemori in cui passavo casualmente per Fossano mi innamorai di questo meraviglioso viadotto sul Fiume Stura di Demonte appartenente a uno dei grandi manufatti sulla "nuova" Torino-Savona passante per Fossano-Mondovì. Finalmente, dopo 21 anni di continuo rimandare a causa di varie motivazioni, decisi di prendere l'iniziativa e di cercare di fare un merci molto interessante, la DTS di Tigri sul Savona-Cuneo. E' stata una sfida, sinceramente non credevo di poter inserire entrambi le Tigri su una foto, invece...
...bella doppia trazione per il MRS 65634 Ravenna - Fossano, deviato via Alessandria - Novara per lavori sulla Torino - Alessandria. Pesante treno carico di cereali stoccati nelle gialle tramogge Nacco/Veronesi. Per mia fortuna il treno ha accumulato forte ritardo e ho potuto riprenderlo.

A majestic example of medieval architecture, the Castle of the Princes of Acaja towers over Fossano’s historic center with its corner towers and inner courtyard. Built in the 14th century as a fortress, it was later transformed into a noble residence, preserving its grandeur and timeless charm.

Die 70 neuen Elektrotriebwagen der Reihe ETR 425, die seit Beginn des Jahres 2014 sukzessive an verschiedene italienische Regionen ausgeliefert werden, promotet Trenitalia unter dem klangvollen Namen "Jazz". Wie schon die mittlerweile weit verbreiteten "Minuetti" entstammen sie der Coradia-Produktfamilie von Alstom und werden im piemontesischen Savigliano gefertigt.
Am 22. Oktober 2014 - einem sonnigen Herbsttag, an dem allerdings ein eiskalter Wind wehte - überraschte uns eine Einheit im Fahrgastbetrieb auf der Tendabahn, nicht allzu weit von der Fertigungsstätte entfernt.
Als Regionale 4329 (Fossano - Limone) passiert der Zug die aufwendige Streckenführung bei Vernante, wo das Gleis zunächst mittels eines Kehrtunnels an Höhe gewinnt und dann auf einem großen Viadukt den Weiler Tetto Salet überquert. Links im Bild ist noch die untere Ebene erkennbar...

Casa di Reclusione di Fossano. Originally a 16th-century convent of the Poor Clares, the building was later expanded and renovated in 2007. It now functions as a single detention pavilion arranged over three floors.

Gegensätzlicher könnte das Erscheinungsbild der beiden "Protagonisten" dieses Bildes kaum sein: Während der "Tigre" E 652 171 - ganz untypisch für Loks von Mercitalia Rail - aussieht wie ein junger Gott, ist das alte Bahnwärterhaus am Streckenkilometer 64 (gezählt von Trofarello bei Turin aus, wo die Strecke nach Cuneo und Savona jene nach Asti/Alessandria verlässt) seit geraumer Zeit dem Verfall preisgegeben und bietet eher einen traurigen Anblick.
Fotografisch gesehen reizte es mich allerdings durchaus, denn landschaftliche Höhepunkte sucht man in der landwirtschaftlich geprägten Ebene zwischen Fossano und Cuneo vergeblich, sodass die Ruine eine markante Landmarke am Schienenstrang darstellt. Nachdem sie den entgegenkommenden Klinker-Zug von Robilante nach Trino Vercellese hat passieren lassen, schleicht die E 652 171 mit TRA 50901 (Torino Orbassano - Cuneo) langsam aus der Kreuzung im Bahnhof Centallo und passiert das Bauwerk, ehe sie die letzte Etappe bis zum Zielbahnhof in Angriff nimmt.
Von Cuneo aus werden die Getreidewagen noch am selben Abend mit der D 445 1018 nach Busca gebracht und in den Anschluss des Stärke-, Futtermittel- und Rohalkoholherstellers Sedamyl zugestellt werden. di questa luce meravigliosa di fine dicembre: l'ETR425 016 è impegnato ad accelerare il suo regionale per Limone, sul rettilineo della stazione di Borgo San Dalmazzo. Sullo sfondo si scorgono la punta del monte Matto sulla sinistra (3.097m s.l.m.) ed il monte Saben sulla destra (1670m s.l.m.)

Da qualche mese, i treni domenicali "Transcereal" per il trasporto di grano che collegano Domo II con Fossano vengono svolti sull'intero percorso da macchine SBB, mentre precedentemente venivano inoltrati sull'ultimo tratto (da Torino Orbassano a Fossano) tramite NordCargo con De520.
Nella foto, uno di questi treni è ripreso in transito nei pressi di Vignale, capitanato dalla E474 014 SBB.
