Very low tide at Fort Victoria beach on a lovely evening. A couple walk the tide line with Hurst Castle in the background.
There's a lot of negative stuff been said about the new flickr re-design, but I haven't been too moved either way personally, and one thing in its favour is that its definitely panorama friendly! I love the way you can finally view them properly and the way they look on the justified homepage (and on explore! thanks for all the comments and faves on that last one)
Anyways⦠here's another panorama from the annual 'Round the Island Race' on the Isle of Wight, this time taken on the walk up to Headon Warren, but looking back towards Hurst Castle, Fort Victoria and Colwell Bay, which is actually the location for my cross-solent charity swim (you can see what thats all about and donate here if you like? www.everyclick.com/jasonswain2013/)
Taken a bit later in the morning than the previous two 'sunrise' panos' the colours are not so nice but with the gorse in the foreground and the interesting geography i still quite like this one.

The brick Arches of the remaining fragments of Fort Victoria near Yarmouth frame a view across the Solent. The Two figures on the Bench were great distant focus, the vintage yacht a major bonus.
She headed up Loch Long to Glen Mallan, the NATO weapons jetty. This could be prior to being deployed in support of NATO warships because of the Ukrainian crisis. Edit: I went up to Glen Mallan and it was obvious she was unloading ammunition, NOT loading! This was probably following her deployment with the carrier task force last year.

The Fort Victoria is a Fort-class combined fleet stores ship and tanker. She was commissioned in 1994. In July 2017 she returned to the UK after a 26-month deployment, much of which was spent East of Suez. She will soon be modified to support the RN's new aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.
Some images from a recent Photo Club outing for practicing the Long Exposure ideas. This time using a longer lens to get some more detail of the structure together with a new variable nd filter to try out.

A hazy sunset looking across from Fort Victoria to Hurst Castle. Just proves the best camera is the one in your pocket as this was taken on a pocketable camera setup whilst out for a dog walk. A beautiful evening and location to watch the sun go down.

Here's my pedelec at Fort Victoria RV Park in April 2024. There were so many cargo trailers and junk blocking the site-line to this edifice I had to but my photo into Photoshop and do some yard work
