Whilst on a trip to badger weir I achieved this shot. Badger weir is a fantastic picnic spot that also boasts beautiful scenes that are just begging to be photographed. This is one on my first attempts at long exposure photography.

The Williams River bends quietly out of sight beneath a canopy of spring green, its cool water catching just enough sky to turn blue-gray in the current. A soft branch of new leaves reaches into the frame — one of those simple, unhurried river views along the Highland Scenic Highway that's easy to miss if you're not looking for it.

Upstream from the Hérisson Waterfall in the Jura, the forest opens onto a lively stream flowing between moss‑covered rocks. The water rushes over small natural steps, creating a soft, continuous rhythm that contrasts with the stillness of the surrounding trees. The scene captures the raw, humid atmosphere of the Jura’s river valleys, where water, stone, and forest coexist in a delicate balance.

Autumn finds its way into the water — not through motion, but reflection. Here, the branches lean and linger above a slow current that carries only colour: gold turning to rose, light caught between shadow and warmth. I stood back to let it breathe — a moment suspended, framed by stillness.

Captured along the Don River in Glendon Forest, in the late afternoon when the light begins to soften and settle across the water.

The Williams River bends beneath an old bridge along the Highland Scenic Highway, its water shifting from soft ripples in the foreground to a deep, still teal pool where the bridge's shadow falls. Sometimes the most peaceful moments on a road trip happen when you pull over just to look at the water for a while.

This pair of NPR 60s ease to a stop in advance of the diamond in Forest River. NPR travels over the Soo Line's Wheat Line west from Thief River Falls while the diamond crossing here is the Northern Pacific's route to Pembina and Winnipeg from Grand Forks.

I enjoy converting color waterfalls to Black and White, details show well. Hope you like it.

While looking for Northern Plains Railroad activity, a pair of BNSF geeps rolled past the elevator in Forest River, so a shot at the diamond was in order. BNSF uses trackage rights on the Northern Plains Railroad from Ardoch to Conway to gain access to the BNSF Hannah Subdivision. Here the pair makes their obligatory stop at the stop sign protecting the diamond before proceeding west towards Conway for work on the Hannah Sub.

The tannin rich waters of the Huon River, southern Tasmania.

May well have stood on the bridge looking down for the best part of a day if it hadn't started to rain. Completely hypnotic - even after a few games of Pooh-Sticks.

In October of 2025, I took a scenic route to Redding, California from my home in Lassen County. The purpose was to scout fall colors to decide if I wanted to camp in the area a week or so later. One stop I made was Hat Creek Park, a few miles from Burney, off State Route 299. I had some beautiful golden light a few miles up the road, but here I ended up under overcast skies as a mild storm system was on the way in. I was alright with this, as the sun had gotten fairly high by this point in the late morning, so the overcast softened what may have been too harsh of light on the creek at this location.

Hat Creek is well known as a “blue ribbon” trout stream, extremely popular with western anglers, especially in this section where it lazily meanders above its confluence with Lake Britton and below two powerhouses upstream.

This peaceful autumn creek scene is ideal for nature lovers, fly fishing enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to quiet Northern California landscapes. The soft, overcast light and golden fall foliage reflected in the calm water create a serene, contemplative mood well suited for living rooms, offices, cabins, or lodges seeking a calming natural presence. It also makes a meaningful piece for residents of Shasta County, Burney, or Lassen County, as well as for those with fond memories of fishing, camping, or autumn drives through the Hat Creek and Pit River region.

“Bilbo was deep in thoughts of bacon and eggs and toast and butter when he felt something touch him.”

For me, the spider is a mixed bag. On the one hand, I’m very happy with its skinny legs—I consider them more elegant but also more creepy than thick spider legs. I’m just not sure if using two wooden tubs as its tushy was the best idea. Sure, size and shape are okay, but they look like tubs, no matter what.

Captured in the Doubrava River Valley, this long-exposure photograph transforms flowing water into a soft, ethereal veil, revealing the quiet rhythm of the landscape. The extended exposure time smooths the river’s movement, creating a timeless atmosphere where motion and stillness exist side by side.

Surrounded by untouched nature, the scene invites the viewer to slow down and experience the calm presence of water shaping the valley over centuries. Long exposure allows hidden details and subtle textures to emerge, emphasizing the serene and contemplative character of this remarkable place.

During a mid-October drive through Shasta County, California, I stopped at the Bridge Picnic Area along Hat Creek in search of some early fall color. It was still a touch premature for full autumn hues, but a few trees by the water were already shifting nicely. The low morning sun filtering through the foliage across the creek caught my eye, giving the scene a soft glow that felt worth stopping for. Not long after, a blanket of gray clouds rolled in and the mood completely changed—I was glad I’d made that stop when I did.

Hat Creek is a classic Northern California stream, winding through pine forests and volcanic terrain between Lassen Volcanic National Park and the Pit River. Its cold, clear waters are spring-fed, making it one of the most consistent and celebrated trout fisheries in the state. The creek’s gentle flow and varied sections—ranging from wide, slow glides to fast, rocky runs—offer both scenic beauty and prime angling. Hat Creek’s origins lie in ancient lava fields, and its name dates back to early pioneers who reportedly lost a hat there—an unremarkable event that left a lasting mark on California geography.

The most picturesque and mysterious river in Meshchera is the Pra. And, as proof of this, the pines that stand frozen on the river's winding banks, like sentries guarding the peace of this beauty.

October is ending. It's noticeably cooler. Often in the mornings, everything around is surrounded by gray fog, slush, dampness, and a strangely uninviting atmosphere.

There are still plenty of leaves on the trees, but with every gust of wind they break off and fly like a flock of mysterious birds. And while autumn—this wondrous beauty—has not yet lost its beauty, take the time to listen to the wondrous tales whispered by the last leaves.

Tall pine trees, like sentries, guard the beautiful Pru.

“There was no movement of air down under the forest-roof, and it was everlastingly still and dark and stuffy.”

This vignette didn’t come out the way I wanted. In my mind, the forest was much denser, and I don’t remember why I didn’t add more scrub and details.

I bet I had a really good reason, hahaha.

A dreary time! The charm of the eyes!

Your farewell beauty is pleasing to me—

I love nature's lush fading,

Forests clad in crimson and gold,

In their canopies the rustle of the wind and the fresh breath,

And the skies covered in wavy haze,

And the rare ray of sunshine, and the first frosts,

And the distant threats of hoary winter.

A. Pushkin

Tiny wild forest stream with rushing water between mossy rocks.

Its such a meditation to sit on the shore of the water stream and contemplate a spring revitalizing nature.

Enjoy a beautiful river and trees abstractly! So many colors and shapes revealed.

With the arrival of autumn, everything changes. The recently green leaves of the trees turn golden-yellow, some even turn orange, and later, as the nights grow cold and the daylight hours shorten noticeably, red hues appear. But not all the trees! Meanwhile, the coniferous forests remain green. And such a palette, such a variety of colors, is simply astounding, making you stop, pause, look... and admire!

Nature has no bad weather -

Every weather is a blessing.

Rain or snow - any time of year

We must accept it with gratitude.

It's a warm, quiet evening, and it feels like the entire universe is looking down on us with love. Our summer is so beautiful.

Pra is a beautiful river in the central zone, flowing among lakes, swamps and forests. The water is the color of strong tea (due to the perennial peat at the bottom), clear and clean. The marshes are thickets of horsetail, gonobobel, and cuckoo flax; if you accidentally snag one, a thick cloud of bright dust—spores—flies out. The lakes are surrounded by reeds, bulrushes, cattails, and sedges. And everywhere you look, you'll find white and yellow water lilies—the Meshchera lotus. Here you can spot cranes, herons, bitterns, and eagles. And how many fish there are here!

The landscape of snow-covered trees has given way to the delicate watercolors of spring.

"This river, the Pra, is amazing. Its beauty doesn't catch your eye at first glance, doesn't strike you with its outward show, but rather slowly and imperceptibly takes hold of your entire being, and you're unable to resist the enchantment of these pine- and oak-covered banks, golden sandy shallows, mysterious backwaters hidden from prying eyes by the willow thickets along the banks, and sun-drenched forest glades, over which hangs a rich, tart, honeyed aroma, as if infused with wildflowers."

And so I am enchanted by the Pra.

It's a sunny day, early October.

The day had been gray and gloomy since early morning. It was drizzling, and a fine, dreary drizzle hung in the air. The smell of dampness and fallen leaves seemed to remind us that winter would soon be here.

Pra... "I have seen many picturesque and remote places in Russia, but I will hardly ever see a river more virgin and mysterious than Pra", - wrote K. Paustovsky.

Every once in a while I get lucky when out railfanning. Monday the 16th was one of those days. After work Greg LeJeune and I were out exploring a few old Grain Elevators on our way back to Grand Forks. We were looking in the doorway of the old wooden elevator at Ardoch, ND when we heard a horn. to our surprise it was an Eastbound NPR train on the approach to Ardoch. Turned out they were there to pick up three BNSF boxcars for a customer over in Johnstown. First step was to run around the cut of covered hoppers they had in tow, then grab the three boxcars and head back West, with a former NP/BN/MRL GP-9 as a leader, the chase was on. once the turn was made to the South onto former BN jointed rail the chase slowed as the track speed dropped, but that gave us plenty of opportunity to work with the changing scenery.

Given the wide open scenery and small wood bridges along the line I opted for a pan shot over one of them. this was between Forest River and Johnstown.
