Flower of Marmelo...Portuguese name for quince. The large yellow fruit is made into marmelado, a thick jelly.
Escapism it certainly can be. But that is not all. It does not necessarily mean to look the other way. Celebrating beauty and life, and the preservation of both, can also be an act of resistance, of not giving in to the rationality of industrialised death. Not shouting "hurrah", but taking care of life can be an expression of one's alternative approach. Beauty can be subversive, just like the dream of paradise can. Flowers of Bergenia cordifolia. Bergenias are commonly known as pigsqueak (due to the noise made when two leaves are rubbed together), elephant's ears (from the leaf shape) or large rockfoil. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergenia
