BODY PARTS

may the wrist turn in the wind like a wing

the severed foot tread home ground

the punctured ear hear the thrum of sunbirds

the molten eye see stars in the dark

the faltering lungs quicken windmills

the maimed hand scatter seeds and grain

the heart flood underground springs

pound maize, recognize named cattle

and may the unfixable broken bone

loosened from its hinges

now lying like a wishbone in the veld

pitted bij pointillisted ants

give us new bearings.

Time for a London photo, for a change! This is Florin Court, a curvy mansion block of apartments near the Barbican.

Perspective on the façade of the wonderful Florin Court - a residential building on the eastern side of Charterhouse Square in Smithfield, London, UK.

The building is an example of 'streamline moderne', an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s.

It was built in 1936 by Guy Morgan and Partners and features a beautiful, curved façade with projecting wings, a roof garden, setbacks on the eighth and ninth floor and a basement swimming pool.

Being fans of Agatha Christie and actor David Suchet, we visited because in the LWT television series 'Agatha Christie's Poirot', the building was used as Whitehaven Mansions, the fictional London residence of private detective Hercule Poirot.

Back to photos from March's London Flickr photowalk.

If you are thinking you recognise the Art Deco / Streamline Moderne Florin Court then this maybe because it's featured in several films and TV series, the most high profile being Agatha Christie's 'Poirot'.

By the way, the next London Flickr Group photowalk is being held on Saturday 24th June, more details here if that sounds something you'd be interested : www.flickr.com/groups/londonflickrgroup/discuss/721577219...

From Wikipedia, "The building has been used as Whitehaven Mansions, the fictional London residence of Agatha Christie's character Hercule Poirot, in the LWT television series Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989–2013). As well as exterior filming, a number of interior shots of the building were used for this programme over the 24 years of production.

In March 2019 the building was again extensively filmed, after being selected as home and neighbourhood of one of the leading characters of the Batman spin-off Pennyworth.

In 2022 the exterior is featured in the film See How They Run. The home of character Melvyn Cocker-Norris and Gio."

the perfect enlightenment

I chanced upon this building last weekend on a photo walk having looked in vain for it before.

It was a nightmare to line this up and I had a sore neck after a while!

Sometimes it happens when the name comes during the assembly. This one sounded like Florina or Florinda. I still can't decide if D is needed or not. And yes, this model asked to be green. How do you think?

Иногда бывает, что имя приходит во время сборки. Эта звучала как Флоринда. Или Флорина... я не расслышала :) Ну и она хотела быть зеленой, естесственно. Нужна Д или нет?

30 unit assembly is also possible.

Slightly different angle on this one; took a whole slew of versions, and found it very tricky to work out which angle was the most satisfying!
