Machir Bay is one of Islay's premier beaches. Even on a moody, gloomy day with ok light the shine and gloss of the beach was stunning.
Nice drive over to the east coast of Scotland today to visit Belhaven bridge. I mistimed my set up as high tide had passed not long before my arrival, meaning I missed the chance to isolate the bridge with water. Still happy with the shot and as they say a sunrise lifts any photo!
Lovely evening light just before sunset presented the opportunity to grab a shot as he lifted his hed above the grassland.

A hike up Buachaille Etive Beag on route to the Stob Dubh summit. Starting at 5am the sound of constant stags rutting was unsettling in colllete darkness. As we made our way through the mist and cloud we took a break at sunrise to be treated with the most spectacular views.
A clear night in Scotland (a rare thing) allowed for some spectacular views of the stars. A drive Dalwinnie near the Cairngorms did not disappoint. This lone tree was a perfect choice as a subject for this photo. Thanks for visiting.

The slow step of an anonymous figure slips between warm walls and flowered names. “Il Girasole” — the sunflower — offers a subtle nod to light, just a word at eye level.
A simple, nearly forgotten scene, yet precious — like a sunbeam in shadow.

Taken near the start of our hike up Glas Bheinn. You can see the Staoineag Bothy in the far distance.
A post Christmas hill walk was in order so myself and a buddy decided to do the Pap of Glencoe. A very rough walk with bits of missing path to contend with ensured a difficult climb just after lunch to get there for sunset. After finally making the ascent to the summit around 3.55pm we were treated to a sensational sunset with superb views down loch Leven to Ballachulish. The wind was sharp and fast at the top so we only strayed for around 10 minutes for photos. The less said about the descent in complete darkness with ice everywhere the better.

A beautiful day with an explosive evening in the fun city of White Rock, British Columbia. Loads of people flocked to the "City by the Sea" to enjoy this annual celebration. Spectators lined the shores of Semiahmoo Bay and Canada's longest pier to watch the dazzling display of fireworks.
Looking west over the bay, over the White Rock Pier, over West Beach to the beautiful neighbourhood of Ocean Park. To the left of me, the Canada/United States International Border which splits the bay.
For safety reasons, no one was allowed between me and the pier as the pyrotechnics were launching from the shore by the white rock.

Just back from an epic trip to the Isle of Islay. A place close to my heart living there for 18 months a few years ago for work. Fine beaches and fine whisky in abundance. Following a quick visit to the Kilchoman distillery we took the chance to visit machir bay, one of Islay's premier beaches. Untouched and unpolluted, even in moody mid day conditions the light and shine were hypnotic.
#NPS106 - Happy Founders Day! The Organic Act became law #onthisday in 1916 formally creating the National Park Service.
What to say about our favorite government agency on this, its 106th anniversary? The only thing to say, I suppose; that the National Park Service is perhaps our most noble endeavor. What we choose to save on our planet reveals what kind of species we are. Shall we save our tallest mountains? Our deepest canyons? Our oldest trees? Our waters and our skies and our lands and our history? Even our mistakes? Even the most ugly instances of where our culture has stumbled so that we may learn from them and improve? Yes. All that and more. In these uncertain times, when many are actively questioning the purpose and functionality of the National Park Service, may we always remember that what we choose to save about the land and our past is what we choose to save about ourselves. The National Parks are our best idea because they are OUR democratic spaces and they reflect OUR inclusivity and diversity.
May the NPS have its best days before it.

A view of Lake Bled from the Mala Osojnica viewpoint. A short but tricky scramble to the top of this hill took about 25minutes. The most challenging part was jostling for position at the top with the dozens of YouTubers and tik tokers.
