HMM to all participants!

It is ideal in that sense. It is an ideal medium for working with ideas because it is so flexible, so immaterial :-)

It is a trick of long zoom lens that makes Fujisan (富士山) or Mt. Fuji look so close to the high-rise buildings in Nishi Shinjuku (西新宿) or western Shinjuku.

This is a westward view from Bunkyo Civic Center.

The twin-tower building just beside Fujisan is Tochou (都庁) or Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office Building. It also has a free observation lounge.

Since Japan is an earthquake prone country, high-rise buildings are built as anti-seismic flexible structures. I hear that these high-rise buildings swing slowly and continue swinging for a while after an earthquake is over. Some say they suffered motion sickness. I also hear that it was horrifying to look up swinging skyscrapers from the ground level at the time of earthquake (^_^;

Tokyo prefecture designates emergency evacuation sites for respective areas of the prefecture in case of severe earthquake. The high-rise building area in Nishi Shinjuku is exceptionally advised to stay in respective buildings.

The area seems to be safe except for the risk of motion sickness.

The Five Boats is an office building in the inner harbor of Duisburg directly at the Buckelbrücke and the Hitachi Power Office.

The seven-storey office building, completed in 2004, was designed by the star designer Sir Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners from London, the detailed planning came from the German architects Bahl und Partner, the project was managed by Kölbl Kruse GmbH, the construction work came from Bilfinger Berger AG, the construction costs amounted to 50 million Euro. The requirement was to enable as many offices as possible to be connected to the water. Due to the oval shape of the five individual hulls and the fact that they are spread out next to each other, almost all offices have a view of the inner harbor or the city center of Duisburg. The 35 office floors all have an identical layout and are modular in structure, so that they can be used very flexibly. The technical and supply rooms are housed in the rear transverse wings, which are only six stories high. The total office space is 22,000 m². The tenant is the company health insurance company Novitas BKK.

Retail shops and restaurants are located on the ground floor on 1,500 m². There are 175 underground parking spaces in the basement.

At night, the four rear transverse wings are illuminated in different colors using LED technology and illuminate the corrugated aluminum surfaces of the hull. The total of 660 m² of lighting area was divided into twenty fields per connecting tract, whose color gradients or lighting moods can be freely programmed. The lighting concept was developed by spectral Gesellschaft für Lichttechnik mbH.

Shirring is created by using elastic thread in the bobbin and all-purpose thread in the needle, while sewing close rows of stitches. The elastic thread evenly gathers the fabric while creating stretch and texture.

I must say, I was shocked when I saw how nighttime changes an owl's face. While they become fearsome predators at night, they also become much more adorable to us humans, who have evolved to perceive large eyes as captivating and innocent.

In an effort to find area barred owls, I set out to a local park before sunrise and came upon this Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) in the dark. This darkness was so inky and thick, in fact, that I could not see if he was in his hole or not, so trained my tripoded camera on the hole, manually focused, and finally saw him in the preview window! Shocked for sure by those massive pupils staring down at me, a frog (which he swallowed greedily prior to this photo and while I watched) in his talons!

Interestingly, owl eyeballs are not balls at all, but so well evolved for night vision that they have elongated into eye cones. For this reason, they cannot move their eyes in their sockets, and have evolved wildly-flexible necks. With their highly acute retinas replete with rods (the light and movement sensing eye bits), there wasn't much room for cones, and so most owls see limited or no color!

A possibility for the Macro Mondays theme of flexible. There are three possibilities- now to dither, although I’m leaning toward the silver links bracket with the little red heart bead…..

…..Dithering done- decided on this one bc I haven’t had one with a bit of blue for a couple of weeks.. grin

Midground Lighting (The Old Masters)

The view directly behind camera is why we had driven all the way up here, the view was of beaches on the hillside created during the last Ice age, a result of an ice dammed lake long since disappeared, but that had no light on it. Turn around 180degrees and Bob's your uncle, one has to be flexible in Scotland.

Merci!

Thanks for your visit, most appreciated.

My best friend gave me a flexible mask holder the other day to put on the mask and it is exquisitely convenient when we drink/eat. I gave her a hand gel in this sensitive time. Taken on the mask.

My light plastic slinky in rainbow colours .. the biggest problem shooting it was keeping it from snapping back into shape!

Bright sunshine and a polished wooden table helped create the shadows.😊

It is amazing how flexible they can be and to keep balance at the same time.
