Fooling around the house, in a rainy day...
For me, Polaroid is a ritual of wonder, surprise, unexpected. It's magic...

The fisheye lens is probably what comes to mind first when I think of distortion and photography.

Today we ate in a picnic pavaillion at Lake Coralville in Iowa. We were to talk with the Corps of Engineers guy about flooding, the focus of our workshop. The speaker, on the right here, is only a year or two from retirement so he was very honest with his answers. I really enjoyed him, a good speaker and a nice place.
Obviously a little hot & humid as you can tell from my drink can, but still nice!
This whole sky star trails image was taken on the evening of Sept 20th, 2025, during second day of Lika Star Party. The image was produced by combing 431 individual exposure totaling 3h and 35 minutes. Imaging time was long enough to show movement of Polaris, which is not actually at the north celestial pole, but it is offset for 45 minutes of arc (3/4 od degree) .
Camera: Sony A7CIII
Lens: Meike 6,5mm f/2 @ f2.8
431x30s exposure at ISO 1600.
Processed in Sequator, Siril and Photoshop.
For weeks I've been photographing racing cars & footballers using nothing but 80-200mm or 80-400mm lenses. These lenses are good to use and footballers and cars are excellent subjects, but for immediacy, and a bit of silly fun, there's nothing like wandering around the garden with the dog, one of the cats, and a short prime. This fisheye is the logical conclusion but is maybe taking things a bit too far...
Taken by moving a fisheye lens around under a grid of lights near the Stratton Student Center on the MIT campus, Cambridge, MA.
The manual focus AI-S fisheye meters and works great on the F100, really cool!

I was able to fit the lens through one of the openings in the sculpture. A fast fisheye really opens up photographic opportunities.
Fisheye, meet the mirror. Mirror, meet the fisheye. Don't ask me why I have an umbrella in this photo either.
This is my Opteka Fisheye adaptor 0.2x added to my Nikon 18 - 55 kit lens.
This is a great lens adaptor.
You attach it onto your current lens, and you are provided with different lens size adaptors to help you fit it.
If you get it from here they send you a great camera kit for free - with a mini tridod and lots of useful goodies.
