Fire salamanders live mainly in the forests of Central Europe.
As adults, fire salamanders are largely independent of surface waters and lead a hidden existence in niches of caves, under dead wood and tree stumps, between rocks and log piles, and in the gap system of the ground. For females, proximity to spawning waters plays an important role in habitat selection, along with the presence of daytime hiding places.

Smile on Saturday: Sunset
Mount Canigó (Canigou in French) is our "sacred" mountain. Every year the summer solstice fire is light at the top of the mountain and brought back to the plain, where it then goes to towns in villages around Catalonia (both French and Spanish) and to other regions, including Belgium. It is a majestic, star-shaped mountain that overlooks the plain and the sea, and can be seen from virtually everywhere in the region (and even from Marseille, which is 300 km from here, thanks to an optical phenomenon... I'm telling you, it has magical powers!). You can never be used to its beauty, there is always a moment when you catch sight of it and your breath is taken away. It is particularly magnificent in winter, when it is covered in snow; the light of the rising sun paints it a soft pink, and sunsets become truly magical, wherever you watch them from.

Another huge fire last evening at 10* out in town. Like 5 businesses gone and Olesons Food store where we all shop is smoke filled. They got called out at 8pm and my husband came home at 3 am froze. Just so sad.
The building in the centre, of course. The Fire Brigade in my village is a voluntary organisation - and it really is in (!) the village, ready on shortest notice. Many other essential institutions are not. For example, the next police station is many miles away. So is the nearest bank etc. Somehow, we do manage nevertheless. This is a civilised place.
For group “Macro Mondays” and this week’s theme “Opposites.”
A few ice cubes doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire in a small Pirex dish. Despite almost catching my lens hood on fire j/k, it made for a fun little shoot.
the photo is not faked, I swear it was my second time as I visited an exhibition of a Zero member that a woman walked in wearing black and red, the same red Piene used for his fire paintings ... !
still I can't believe my luck !
the photo beneath got 97000 ...
