large pano taken at tunnel view

I feel as if I had a nail and hammer with this shot...

Finding a spot to shoot without footprints can be a challenge in sandy conditions.

As for this shot, I kind of like the different layers and light.

Death Valley holds many wonders this is just one of them.

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are a vast area of mountain-fringed dunes reaching 100ft.

Go early & pack water

One of my favorite spots on the hike towards Emerald Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park, is this view towards the magnificent Longs Peak. Pines and sky add to the drama.

While looking rather monotonous in the midday sun, the magic of the South Dakota Badlands really begins at sunrise or as here near sunset. And when the sky gives a hand, the array of colors can be quite dazzling. Taken at the Pinnacles Overlook in the Badlands National Park.

Milky Way rising over Sinepuxent Bay at Assateague Island National Seashore - This was taken at astronomical dawn on a new moon night last April. I had not photographed the Milky Way at Assateague before, so I arrived before dark to locate the tree and then determine my shooting position. The shooting position was restricted due to a downed tree, but I realized the core would reach the tree from a tight spot at the end of the night. After photographing the Milky Way at other spots with friends (Naturalist Shack - need to post that one here some time), I returned to finish a great night with this shot.

Finally, some disappointing news regarding the tree. Yesterday, I learned that the tree has recently been destroyed by the weather. While the base is still in the water, the top of the tree has snapped off. Bummer.
