Today is the final day of the 139 under London Sovereign control. They took over the route when the Finchley Road changes occurred and this contract was transferred from the 13. I’ve always enjoyed riding these B5LH units with their original seating - helps that this is one of my local routes too.
However, RATP have had reliability problems for some time with their operations. Multiple routes have had bunching up or lengthy gaps between buses (latter in this case). So in that sense, it’s not surprising Edgware (BT) have lost the route but it’s a shame either way. Hope RATP sort their issues out before winning more routes.
Metroline will re-take the route tomorrow using ex-34 Gemini 3 smileys bass out of Cricklewood (W) which are pretty good buses overall and will probably be a side-step. It’s worth noting ML and W have had the 139 before but only when it went to West Hampstead.
I’ll certainly miss these buses; the only time I’ll see them at Waterloo is when the 172 utilises them on occasions, I’ll catch them when that happens. The G2 B5LH buses will get a refurb and then transfer onto the 28 next May. Whether it’ll be from Edgware or Park Royal (RP) remains to be seen.
For one final day, BT13YWR (VH45119) is leaving Waterloo Station/Tenison Way on a journey to Golders Green.
I wasn't sure how to feel about today. One part of me feels elated to have completed the challenge, another part of me is sad about it, and I know I will miss it too much to stop. But, I do know how Father Christmas feels at the end of a long year working....shattered, so I thought I would show him some empathy with this photo !
It has been an interesting year, both personally and photographically. I started the challenge to see a progression in my photography. I don't know if the actual photographs show this or not. But in the year i changed from a wonderful compact camera to my big one. I have to thank Andy Taylor for getting me started off with it, and I now shoot fully manually (well most all of the time...I do still use the macro setting).
I want to thank the wonderful friends on here who have supported me all the way, with advice, techniques, encouragement and putting up with my sense of humour,
I am so excited about putting this photo up, think I will have a week break, and then start again in the new year....along with a new start at the gym :)
Thanks again to all of you out there - Mick, Danny, Veronique, Nikki, Eric, Derena,Mark, Paul, Andy, Tim, Eddie, Pat and Brian, to name but a few.

Withdrawn 1528 (L528FHN) sat parked up in Loftus depot. A bus i never got to ride on. Withdrawn due to engine failure before it moved to Redcar!
