Maya Deren is certainly up there on my favorite list when it pertains to film directors. Her avant-garde/experimentally cinematic style helped label her as the queen of cinema ("mother of the trance film") in the 40s and 50s and the first "giant of american experimental filmmaking." The Revera and Reel Youth Age is More Film Project is an intergenerational partnership between Revera, a Canadian leader in seniors' accommodation, care and services, and Reel Youth, a charitable project that empowers youth to create engaging films about important social issues. The partnership was launched in 2013.
With 80 films to date, the program celebrates older Canadians through story-telling and film, with the added benefit of fostering new intergenerational relationships. The project aims to shed light on ageism, challenge the assumptions of aging and recognize the valuable contributions of older adults to society.
