Two F-35B test aircraft fly in close formation while in short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) mode for the first time on Feb. 11, 2014 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.

An F-35B test aircraft hovers above the USS Wasp while another operates around the ship in short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) mode on Aug. 20, 2013. The two aircraft were participating in Developmental Test Phase Two for the U.S. Marine Corps STOVL variant of the F-35.
Wow. I always like to learn new things about photography, but I have to say that I was schooled by the talent at the Oregon Air Show this last weekend... and by talent I mean the extremely fast moving jets (like many, many shots with only parts of the objects in the frame). Also, please forgive me for taking some creative action on the photo above. It was very HOT Saturday and I think I might have fried my brain just a little bit. :)
Royal Air Force Coningsby or RAF Coningsby, is a Royal Air Force station located 13.7 kilometres south-west of Horncastle, and 15.8 kilometres north-west of Boston, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England
An F-35B test aircraft prepares to land vertically on the deck of the USS Wasp Aug. 22, 2013. The aircraft was flying during F-35 short takeoff/vertical landing Developmental Test Phase Two.
With most jets the standard is to push the shutter speed as fast as you can. Modern afterburners make a nice cone regardless of shutter speed. When I shot the practice day on Friday at the JRB Fort Worth I followed that concept with Fighterjets Inc's Mig 17.
When I looked at the results I found that the afterburner flame did not look very appealing.
On sunday when I shot, I slowed the shutter speed down, and the results were a much smoother flame, which I feel really makes the image pop that much more.
This Republic F-105 Thunderchief is dressed in Thunderbird paint at the Chanute Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, Illinois. Also known as the Thud, the F-105 Thunderchiefs were supersonic fighter-bombers and played a pivotal role in "Operation Rolling Thunder" during the Vietnam War. Designed to be a single-seat aircraft, later models had two seats and were dubbed "Wild Weasels." While extremely fast and very capable at delivering their payloads, they were very susceptible to surface-to-air missiles. They remain the only U.S. aircraft to be removed from combat due to high loss rates.
This photo was taken in the final few months of operation for Chanute Aerospace Museum, which sadly closed its doors in November 2015. The collection has either distributed to other museums or scrapped on site. I believe this Thunderchief was one of the pieces that met a tragic end.
The latest moc is one of my first military builds in my time as an AFOL. This build was inspired by the new Lego element 49307, which is a 1x1 modified brick with a curved top. I used it to edge the wings and I think it was a perfect application for that.

Returning home from a mission over Afghanistan. My wingman was in perfect position for a sunset shot.

A twin-seat supermaneuverable multi-role fighter jet, the Sukhoi SU-30SM features forward canards and 3D thrust vectoring engines along with a suite of avionics and airframe upgrades. The build contains 3378 pieces with custom tiles for decals on the airframe. It features folding landing gear, moving elevators, detailed twin-cockpits, and many small details to make the jet as close to the real one as possible. Special thanks to Admiral_Plackbar for advice and refinement on the build, check him out as well!
