This isn't my fig tree. Mine has darker leaves. I like these better.
What is interesting is that none of the fig trees have ripe fruit yet. It's late August. Makes no sense.
The birds are waiting!
Possibly founded in the tenth century, but the two major stages of construction date to the 12th or twelfth and thirteenth century, respectively. It is one of the earliest surviving mosques on the Swahili Coast.
The smaller northern prayer hall dates to the first phase of construction. It contained a total of 16 bays supported by nine pillars, which were originally carved from coral but later replaced by timber. The structure was entirely roofed, and was perhaps one of the first mosques in the area to have been built without a courtyard.
In the early fourteenth century, Sultan al-Hasan ibn Sulaiman, who also built the nearby Palace of Husuni Kubwa, added a southern extension which included a great dome. This dome was described by Ibn Battuta after he visited Kilwa in 1331.

this little figtree is going to have a tough life. The seed found its way into this cavity in a cliff- now the little tree is reaching for the sun. With luck there will be enough soil and moisture to grow. The tree is about 50cm tall now (about 1 1/2 ft). Figtrees can grow in the most awkward places and survive- like roofs of churches, eavestroughs etc.
Thought I best try and get one or two of this massive tree, that is part of or in the grounds of the Fig Tree Hotel or Motel in Narrandera, NSW. I decided when I stayed there last October that it was too big for any of my gear, but wandered around the other side last Thursday morning and grabbed a few hand helds, nothing outstanding but a bit of a happy snap.

A strangler fig species. It can also grow as a free-standing tree on its own, growing up to 12–15 m tall. The leaves are variable in shape, but often with a broad apex and narrow middle, resembling a lyre or fiddle. A popular ornamental tree in subtropical and tropical gardens, and is also grown as a houseplant in temperate areas .

Little MOC or vignette. No elaborate construction, but lots o' flowers!! ^^
You can find a fig tree, a fuchsia bush, some daisies and dandelions, what was supposed to be lavender, but let's say they're violets! Plus some edible and non-edible mushrooms! And then there's all the wildlife!! Kinda wanna be there right now… !
I just finished making this table runner, using the template and directions for the Funky Pinwheel block by Jodi from Pleasant Home blog. I used some charm squares from her Etsy shop, as well as a few of my own fabrics. I love the spring-fresh palette and sweet prints...yellow, aqua, green and red. There are strawberry fabrics from Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet, plus some Mill House Inn and Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree Quilts. I love the Fig Tree Cream background.

The fig trees are grown in these small enclosures built of the volcanic rock. The walls protect the fig trees from the very high winds that they get on the Azores islands. These photos were taken on Pico.
This tree is at least 35 years old & puts out a big crop of figs every year ~ Enough for me, the birds, and the squirrels.
