It’s a real treat.

A skin certainly a little firm ... but a flesh ....!!!!!!!!!

The "Noire de Caromb" is a biferous variety of fig tree. The first figs can be enjoyed in June-July. Those of late August, smaller but more numerous, are just as succulent!

Macro Mondays: Condiment

Deciduous, sun-loving, small tree to 15ft. I picked these this morning. The birds like them too so it’s best I check the fruit each day.

There is a huge fig tree in the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Sarasota, Florida, USA). It’s hard to understand the scale; however, as an example, the roots near the tree’s trunk, would come up to my waist.

This brown fig is decadently sweet, providing flavors of hazelnuts and confectionaries.

when they are on the firm side but ripe I will simmer them in a port wine with cinnamon stick and a clove till they get soft and the alcohol has evaporated, let it cool in the reduction,

Great when it served with French vanilla ice cream,

or your choice of flavor, vanilla is not overpowering.

I had 3 fresh ones already,

This fig tree (Ficus macrophylla) with its pronounced aerial roots is around 200 years old. It appears to be a small group of trees, but it is just a single plant.

This impressive tree stands alongside numerous other rare plant species such as orchids, tree ferns, mango trees, bromeliads and various palms in the botanical garden of Puerto de la Cruz on Tenerife.

The island's subtropical climate favours the magnificent growth of these exotic plants.

The garden was founded in 1788 and is over 60,000 square metres in size.

Over 50,000 plants from 5 continents, 5,000 plant species and 120 tree species have found their habitat here.

Just heard the sad news that Fig 'The Queen of the Mara' has sadly passed away after an unprovoked attack from an alpha male Lion. We have fond memories of spending hours photographing Fig and her various cubs over the years, so future trips will not be the same without her. Patrick who has guided for us on many occasions witnessed the attack, along with several guests that were with him at the time, they are obviously distraught. All the guides and locals will feel that they have lost a member of their family.

I was very lucky to receive 4 dozens of figs . I gave some and I also made fig jam.

J'ai été très heureuse de recevoir 4 douzaines de figues locales. J'en ai donné quelques-unes et j'ai aussi fait de la confiture . C'est délicieux.
