The abundance of clouds that almost threatened with a downpour any minute gave me hope of a colorful sunset as I ventured out for an evening hike at Cathedral Gorge State Park. But soon, the wind picked up, and the ominous clouds dispersed. I kept telling myself that a colorful sunset's chances improved. But, alas, it was not to be. Other than a few patches of pink, the big colorful sunset never materialized. Though as the sun went down, the quality of light improved dramatically, creating an atmosphere that complemented the colors and patterns of the landscape.
I noticed this rock formation initially due to the sharp spire at the top instead of the mounds usually in this park. I also saw the prominent horizontal line on it, which I found at many locations within the park. I loved how the horizontal line aligned with the horizon in the background, and the spires of the rock contrast with the mounds in the background. I am also thankful for the few bits of color that appeared above the sky.
