Dad or the Alpha male (right) and Son from last spring. The family group usually consists of a breeding pair - Alpha male & female, and non breeding offspring from previous seasons. The male offspring can stay with the family group for 1 or 2 years.
My Dad passed away when I was only 13, what I remember clearly is his loud laugh, I can still hear it !
I wear his engagement ring.
This is almost 4 cm.

We northern lake dwellers know how to make winter fun. Here's one of my neighbours with his son in tow riding on the frozen lake; each driving his 'toy' of choice. At last count, eight of my neighbours have ploughed olympic size hockey rinks in front of their cottages, a kilometer plus long skating path on the lake is being groomed daily (see first comment box), several ice fishing huts are strategically located around the lake and, of course, snowmobilers are ubiquitous. It has been mercifully mild to-date allowing for a lot of recreational activity up and down the lake. Mother Nature ... if you are reading this ... that was not meant as a challenge to show us the fiercer side of winter as you often do in other years!

I captured this on the Cumberland River. The Father & Son were fishing on a small dry patch in the middle of the river. As I was shooting I noticed the water was rising, I shouted to them and they barley had enough time to cross before the island was gone.

For a few weeks a year you can't go anywhere around here without having dozens of these guys just within a foot or two. When I am lucky I can get a decent shot or two off.

Happy Father's Day. My dad's wedding ring and stationery--probably 80 years old from the USS Texas, which he served on. In the background is a pin from TWA, where he worked and also a pocket watch of my father-in-laws. Both have passed, both remembered this week.

Another beautiful view just outside the park. This image is a tribute to my wonderful father who passed away at the age of 92 in 2009.
In the afternoon after visiting Zion National Park, I took a Zion Outback Safaris trip outside the park. The 3-hour “Mesa Vista” Safari followed North Creek toward the Kolob Terrace, then explored Smith Mesa. Smith Mesa was 'open range'. The area provided spectacular panoramas which stretched from West Temple to the Kolob Fingers at the northern end of the park.
