Stedelijk Museum Schiedam Kunst van Zoro Feigl

This photo shows a part of the standing stones and doesn't cover the whole site.

The Calanais Standing Stones are an extraordinary cross-shaped setting of stones erected 5,000 years ago. They predate England’s famous Stonehenge monument, and were an important place for ritual activity for at least 2,000 years.

We don’t know why the standing stones at Calanais were erected, but our best guess is that it was a kind of astronomical observatory.

Patrick Ashmore, who excavated at Calanais in the early 1980s writes: ‘The most attractive explanation… is that every 18.6 years, the moon skims especially low over the southern hills. It seems to dance along them, like a great god visiting the earth. Knowledge and prediction of this heavenly event gave earthly authority to those who watched the skies.’

Nazca in Peru, no, the Palouse in autumn, viewing the Palouse fields, especially from a vantage point like Steptoe Butte is a fascinating experience and a paradise for photographers,

just sitting up there, taking your time, avoiding the rush, absorbing the beauty and trying to bring back a memoir of it in a photograph.

Was this shadow of a black cat intentionally done by a humourist Palousian or by a mere coincidence while plowing the fields, well I’ll never know.

Thank you all for taking a look at my images, much appreciated!

The island of San Michele, located in the lagoon close to Venice, has been the city's cemetery since the early nineteenth century.

There's also a church with a peaceful cloister leading to the cemetery.

On a fascinating hike with my friend Lothar on the Schynigen Platte with a view of the Oberberghorn (2069 m) above the fog line.

What a gorgeous day! The view of the wonderful panorama changed continuously with the fog. We enjoyed the peaceful silence and the feeling of freedom - such days should never end...

Enough of all this dreamery. This is how it's really looking here at the moment (even if this photo isn't up to date). As I wrote already, it is cold, dull and wet. When You are stuck in the middle of that and it stays for weeks, it is dampen the mood a lot.

It is fascinating to see, how much things are changing with a some distance (here from the top of mt. Lilienstein in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains). Suddenly it is looking mystical and facinating.

I'm sure, there is something we can learn for life from this. How about that ?:

When you're stuck in the middle of a crisis and You can hardly see where it's going. Stop searching in the fog. Try to gain distance (with time and preferably with support) and look at the problem from a distant point of view. Get an overview, make a plan and I'm sure that you will find your way.

Daraus lässt sich doch bestimmt wieder was fürs Leben lernen.

Always fascinating to see these falcons "hover" in the air in search of prey.

A fascinating green river in Slovenia, the Soča, it is attracting many visitors every year. The water is so clear that this kayaker seems to float on it.

Captured during Summer 2020

Fascinating collection of colourful wrecks.

This is a spider wasp with a Wolf spider. I have not been able to identify what type of spider wasp it is, apparently there are many different types. Here in southern Arizona we have one by the name of Tarantula Wasp, which preys on Tarantulas. They are much larger and have orange wings. The wasp in the photo has stung this spider. When I came across them the wasp was dragging the spider across the ground, heading for her nest. The horrifying part of this story is, the venom of the wasp does not kill the spider, it paralyzes it. After stinging and paralyzing the spider, the wasp drags it to its nest where it lays eggs inside the spider. When the wasp larva hatch inside the spider, they eat it alive. I took this photo at Gilbert Water Ranch in Gilbert Arizona.

Had 3 beautiful windless days in Lodi where so many people go to view these amazing Sandhill Cranes. I found a deeply plowed divot in this cornfield where these beautiful birds allow me to sit and watch them as they leisurely grazed and at times would go into their 'fascinating mating dances'.

Pink Waxcaps or Hygrcybe Calyptriformis are a beautiful and unusual sight. They will appear in undisturbed grasslands either singular or with just two or three together. Taken on Dartmoor by the side of a stream.

This MM theme went round and round (no pun intended) in my head all day. After an exhausting day and an accidental after-dinner nap on the sofa 😱, I decided on the simplest thing I could get my hands on. A thimble, which lights nicely and creates its own bokeh. I'm still not sure it's the best thing I could've come up with in the (rather limited) time I've had over the past week, but here it is anyway.

Hi there! Let me tell you the fascinating and dramatic story of this bird island on the west coast of Norway. In the year 1725 a ship from the Netherlands descended here. The ship was loaded with gold. The gold treasure was later found by divers. The island "Runde" has only 150 inhabitants. But every summer, more than 500,000 seabirds come here to nest. And tourists from all over Europe come here, either to experience this adventure or to find remnants of the gold treasure... Thanks for your visit and comments, my Flickr friends. I hope you're all staying safe and healthy. Enjoy your summer):

Thank you all for taking a close look at all of my images, its much appreciated!

We had a mooch about the other morning in our local area, as we had really heavy mist. We live in a pit village, so we often see some ‘interesting’ sights. That morning, some fairground trucks were parked up in an area of dilapidation. Made for some fascinating captures. A little bit different to ‘misty woodlands’ More captures of this series to follow.

I don't recall ever seeing these flowers with the white petals before! They go through so many stages that it's difficult to keep track. They are fascinating flowers.

Fascinating to see the evidence of all the changes that have happened in those archways over time. How the different windows have appeared, been replaced, and more recent styles applied. One can get a picture of how things could have looked originally.

Fascinating how they use their tail feathers to slow them down before their feet touch the water.
