Coots are medium-sized water birds which are members of the rail family Rallidae. They constitute the genus Fulica. Coots have predominantly black plumage, and, unlike many of the rails, they are usually easy to see, often swimming in open water. They are close relatives of the moorhen. The greatest species variety is in South America, and it is likely that the genus originated there. They are common in Europe and North America(wikipedia).

Tons of high-pitched voices came one day from th pine tree in front of my house. When I looked, about seven Coal Tit chicks and two parents very desperate to feed their younglings.

This collage of memories is based on the life and beauty of another one of my great aunts, Mattie Malvina Hamilton. She was the sixth of seven daughters, born in Kentucky in 1880. Although I don’t remember her, I do know that she was a favorite sister of my grandmother. I wish I had listened more carefully to her stories of “Aunt Matt”.....

A white stork nest in the wildlife park Eekholt. These storks are no more able to fly away because of injuries in the past. They found their home in the wildlife park after being rescued and are visited every summer by their old partners who never forgot them and return every spring. They build their nests on the ground now and raise their chicks. It is always again so touching to watch them.

We found these all over the park we favor nearby; possibly eastern tent caterpillars. The day was dreary and lent a bit of moodiness to the forest...and creepiness as if in a graveyard of them.
