In fallout 4 the world is brought to a end by nuclear war. This happens because of the resources being dried up and the super powers of the world fight to gain control of the last supply of resources. After china took Anchorage it quickly escalated and soon after nuclear war leading to the death of man. Or at least most of humanity. Man survived in vaults made before the war by vault tech. They then where opened 200 years later to a baron wasteland full of mutated monster and radiation. There is a positive side in that humanity survived and rebuilt (slowly.) This event could happen because our resources are also running low which could lead to war and the occupation of other countries. But in addition, It could also couldn't happen since the fallout world is a lot different to ours due to the transistor not being invented which means they wouldn't make nuclear power therefore not burning through precious resources.
