Escapism it certainly can be. But that is not all. It does not necessarily mean to look the other way. Celebrating beauty and life, and the preservation of both, can also be an act of resistance, of not giving in to the rationality of industrialised death. Not shouting "hurrah", but taking care of life can be an expression of one's alternative approach. Beauty can be subversive, just like the dream of paradise can. A real gerbera this time (as opposed to the not-so-real capture a few months ago!)
Prior to the Sunday-afternoon barbecue, I snatched a few moments experimenting with depth-of-field, before lighting up some charcoal and briquettes! Along with this capture, I must have snapped 30-40 shots before finally getting the depth I wanted.
