100% crop on large view! my new Canon 85mm f1/8 is amaaazzziiinnggg!! look at the paper on the front spool in the large view. I'm very very pleased.
I altered the contrast a bit and filtered out some noise in the surrounding white area. I made the background #FEFEFE to match flicker.. anyone know why they don't set their background to pure white?
I have different screens and on one of them, this looks perfect, but on another it looks like i'm pushing it with the contrast. Anyone? please let me know how this appears on your screen (too bold or about right)

I just got a nice shiny new Dell Studio 17 Laptop (on the left).
Which is fine, except that for some colors, it gets little crawly lines all over the color.
Like, say, the background of the flickr homepage (which, for web design geeks is #fefefe)
My old 9300 (on the right) doesn't do it.
I want it fixed, cause if you do much color work - you know, like editing photos, it really sucks.
He's supposed to be here between 11:00am and 1:00pm. It's 12:43pm. I'm not thinking he's gonna make it....
Oh, and they're in our living room so he can be comfy if & when he ever gets here.

This is a photo of my lappy screen, taken to satisfy some supervisor type at Dell that, despite 3 technicians reporting the same thing I'm trying to tell them, there really is a problem. It's really, really not acceptable if you want to use it for any serious color work.
On the left is a background of pure white (#ffffff). On the right is what should be a solid chunk of almost pure white (#fefefe). It's the same color, in fact, the flickr use as their background (check the CSS - really it is).
What is actually displayed on the right is, as you can see, a nice little pattern. And it moves, flickers and generally gets all distracting. You can change it if you fiddle with the gamma settings in the video drivers. Then it changes to a different color (or set thereof).
6-bit panels suck. What sucks even more is that there's no (obvious) way to find out you're about to be lumbered with one until after you've bought the dame thing. And what sucks even more is finding out, after the event, in the back of the Setup Guide, that they in fact have an 8-bit panel available - they just don't actually offer it as an option in this country.
AAARRRGGGHHH.

I'm playing around with Picnik. This is the Polaroid option under Borders. I picked up the trick of changing the background color to #fefefe to match Flickr's almost-white background, making the Polaroid seem to float on the page from this posting by Brenda Anderson on the Picnik users group
