This small forest thrush gets its name from the cascade of “veer” notes that make up its ethereal, reedy song—a common sound at dusk and dawn in summer in the damp northern woods. Most Veeries are a warm cinnamon brown above, with delicate spots on the throat; though far northwestern and northeastern populations are darker brown. These birds hop through the forest understory as they forage for insects and fruit. They spend winters in South America.

Fall Branch
New River Gorge
This is the second waterfall on Fall Branch and it was here that during my hike w/ Brent, Dana and Rachel the skies started getting really dark and the rains increased. We both fired off several frames here before heading upstream for the third waterfall on Fall Branch, and the end of our hike.

Starting off 2017 with a resolution of drawing and painting much, much more than the previous year.
Here's the last one of 2016 to get my juices flowing and the fingers back to work.

New Haven Railroad westbound manifest freight train, with a block of refrigerator cars, is led by an EMD GP9 locomotive # 1219, ALCO FB-2 & 2 FM H16-44 locomotives as it is about to pass by tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, summer 1968. Many of the refrigerator boxcars on this train probably came from the northern New England States with produce shipments. Th the left of the GP9 locomotive is a set on round top MUT's and to the right far side is set of P-S lightweight stainless steel MUT's. To the left you can clearly see the highway I-95 highway signs. Bob Hughes was able to photograph this four mixed locomotive set on an express track from his tower location.
