Born in 1992 in Issy-Kul, Temirlan always loved to draw and create things with his hands. At college he studied the technology around garment production and later studied fashion. He then decided to open his own atelier in 2015. He only had three sewing machines which he bought using all his savings. At the beginning he worked alone. To find clients, he would hang up advertisements on streets and in cafes. He started by making clothes for friends and relatives. Then, though word of mouth, others learnt about him and his business began to grow.

In 2017, he decided to find a larger place for his business and hired two employees. In 2018, he learned about the USAID funded $5m AKF Youth Skills Programme ad applied. Through this he learned business planning, marketing, and finance and soon after decided to expand his business.

In 2019, he received seed grant from the project to purchase two sowing machines, one iron and two mannequins. He decided to hire some more employees and interns to support the businesses growth. Clients now include local celebrities and dancing groups as well as his regular repeat customers. Customers can now find him through his Instagram account.

M-IFW Islamic Fashion Show featuring Show C – Contemporary Showcase featiuring "ASILA" by Salikin. A loose interpretation of kurung means "to confine and encase" the body. With the introduction of Islam to the Malay community, the Malay concept of Kurung is generally regarded as a loose-flowing, long and comfortable garment that modestly covers the entire body. "Asila" or "The Original" presents my interpretations of Classic Baju Kurung with usage of our very own Songket and Tenuns.

I tried some fashion shots in front of some fashion stores, but wasn't satisfied with them. Then, as I was tidying up my bedroom, I came across this batik shirt.

This is probably the most expensive shirt I ever bought in Indonesia, costing 450.000 Rupiah ~ €35 ~ US$ 50... Nevertheless, one of the buttons came off because of the quality of the stitches (or lack thereof). Luckily it came with a spare button, which I sewed on myself...

So now it's official: I'm totally addicted to ODC, having completed 5 days in a row (6 out of 7 in the last week). Worst symptom: once I have a feasible idea, I can't rest until I've made a satisfying shot AND uploaded it... Next, I check Flickr on my iPod every 10 minutes, to see how many views and comments have come in...

Sigh... anyone know of a cure? (do I really want to be cured, though?)

Please view in Lightbox for a bokehlicious experience... ;-)

Multi-exposure. Image from Fashion Freakout 3; Feb 5, 2010; Austin, Texas. All photos are film scans taken with: Holga 120N and Canon Elan II with 100mm lens and using Kodak P3200 35mm or Ilford 3200 120mm film. This set is not intended to be "high" fashion photography but a collection of funky street images shot with a grin on my face and a "hail Mary" technique; my intention and discovery was in the development, scanning and post work in LR 2.6.
