With a trio of GP20C-ECOs for power, F13 is seen hustling south on the Bangor Sub, crossing the Marsh Stream in Winterport. The white tank cars headpin are a mix of loaded and empty clay cars for Sprague in Searsport, the only customer that CP currently serves in Searsport.

The cream of the crop! It doesn't get any better than this! DJ Short's F13 so now u know! Whoever said, "money doesn't grow on trees," never predicted cannabis prohibition! Thank you Harry J Anslinger for creating this modern day chaos and to you Cooley, wouldn't it be a cruel twist of fate if you became diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis...
Life seems to be very complicated in every place of the world. Most of us are anxious from time to time. Most of us are depressed from time to time. We want to change that. And in many cases such a change can be brought forward by cannabis. That's why people use it, that's all.
This silver-washed fritillary (Argynnis paphia) was making a pit stop on a great masterwort (Astrantia major)

It then let me get *really* close and take another shot which probably was my favourite of the 2016 summer: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/31244855011/
Quite pleased with both the pose and the light on this 5th instar caterpillar of the common yellow swallowtail (Papilio machaon) shot at 2:1 magnification.
These guys have a neat feature for defense - or at least to make themselves less palatable. This thing is something called an omseterium, a y-shaped organ which they can extend from their forehead and which produces a bad smell.
With some help from my son, I actually managed to disturb one of these enough for it to deploy said osmeterium which looked like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53050373683/
Late October is a pretty poor month for bugs on the Stockholm, Sweden area, but after visiting my mother's summer house to change tires before winter comes, I had some luck with a couple of interesting spiders which got my spirits a little higher.
This was probably what made me stop at the Hemmesta sjöäng wetland on my way back in the hopes of finding more bugs to shoot.
Turns out I was right as I found two species of leafhoppers which both were new to me.
This one can't be identified to a species level based on my photos, but we can say that it is one of the species in the Populicerus genus, also called Idiocerus.
These guys suck sap from poplar and other Salix species which fits well with me finding it on a poplar. Also, it kinda looks like it messed up a bit when folding in those flight wings, right?

Shield bugs, like this green shield bug (Palomena prasina) don't have a single metamorphosis like beetles who go from being a larvae and then pupating and emerging as an adult beetle.
Instead, they have five instar stages where they moult several times and gradually become more and more like the final adult version. This one is the fifth and final stage so after the next moult it will be an adult - here we can see the early stages of wings on its back, but it still is unable to fly unlike the adult is.
But there is another twist to identifying these. They come in two colour variants so some are like this in green and black and some don't have the black parts and is just green.
I have no idea why yet, but you can find both variants in the same places - which is exactly what I did as here is one of the green ones shot right before this one: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53639718662/
