The exterior of the Dr. Chau Chak Wing Building has two different but related personalities; an east-facing, undulating brick facade acknowledging Sydney’s sandstone heritage and a western facade of angular glass shards reflecting its contemporary surrounds. Here we see detail from the brick facade.
Up close, the plastic, fluid quality of the building creates an encounter and connection that are wholly physical. Its extraordinarily complex construction included five custom-made brick types manufactured specifically for the building by Bowral Bricks and laid with great skill by master bricklayer Peter Favetti. The undulations of the brick facade and the abundance of idiosyncratic visual and tactile detail make “being there” a highly engaging and personal experience.
If you're ever in Sydney, be sure not to miss this iconic building.

This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Exterior Lighting. A globe street light illuminates this vintage scene. HMMM!
As you liked yesterday's church, lets stick with the theme, shall we? But yesterday, we had an old and catholic one, today it's time for new and orthodox. The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica has only been finished in 2013.
It's even more impressive from the inside, but I'll show that to you tomorrow.

El Exterior: La fachada, idealmente cerrada a la izquierda por la torre de la abadía (siglo XIII) y, a la derecha, por el elegante campanario (siglo XII), es coloristamente evocadora, armoniosa y perfecta en sus líneas arquitectónicas, sobria y liviana en la decoración; refleja la influencia de la arquitectura lombardo-emiliana de la región del Véneto. La mirada se siente inmediatamente atraída por el gran rosetón figurativo. ("rueda de la fortuna") obra del maestro Brioloto (1217-1225).
El pórtico de Nicholaus (1138) es una elegante estructura arquitectónica sostenida por dos leones estilóforos. El escultor realiza las baldosas de mármol a la derecha del portal con Historias de la Creación y dos escenas relacionadas con Teodorico, mientras que, a la izquierda, el alumno Gugliemo se ocupa de los episodios del Nuevo Testamento. En los arquitrabes hay hermosas representaciones de los Meses. En la luneta San Zeno recibe el homenaje de la ciudad.

The priory was founded in 1190 by William Marshal, created 1st Earl of Pembroke, intended for a community of the Augustinian Canons regular and was dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Michael.
To support the new house, William granted it the whole fief of the district of Cartmel. It was first colonised by a prior and twelve canons sent from Bradenstoke Priory in Wiltshire.
