A small stream flowing from the distant 'Hopelessness' Hot Spring area which reminded me of the old Sargasso Sea.
The distant storm seems to be evolving as well!

Slowly showing more and more coloration, this Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) will have much more red streaking his body in about a year's time. You can already see this coloration coming in around his eyes and mouth, with light flourishes painting his legs and abdomen. He's got loads of crickets to eat before then, though--he eats over a dozen a day!
And chameleons really are quite evolved! Seemingly every facet of their being is highly specialized for survival, from their gripping, pincer like feet, to their prehensile tails, to their separately-swiveling eyes, to their color-shifting skin, to their darting tongues. Most chameleons share these incredible traits, be they tiny Leaf Chameleons (like the smallest of all, Brookesia micra, which grows to only an inch in length) or the Parson's Chameleon, which grows to over 25 inches in length, or the size of a house cat!
This panther chameleon, named Queso, lives in captivity.

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210 flowering plant species in the subfamily Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae. Magnolia is an ancient genus. Appearing before bees did, the flowers are theorized to have evolved to encourage pollination by beetles. To avoid damage from pollinating beetles, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are extremely tough. The flowers are bisexual with numerous adnate carpels and stamens are arranged in a spiral fashion on the elongated receptacle. The natural range of Magnolia species is a disjunct distribution, with a main center in east and southeast Asia and a secondary center in eastern North America, Central America, the West Indies, and some species in South America. 7127

Common Whitethroat - Sylvia communis

The common whitethroat (Sylvia communis) is a common and widespread typical warbler which breeds throughout Europe and across much of temperate western Asia. This small passerine bird is strongly migratory, and winters in tropical Africa, Arabia, and Pakistan.
This is one of several Sylvia species that has distinct male and female plumages. Both sexes are mainly brown above and buff below, with chestnut fringes to the secondary remiges. The adult male has a grey head and a white throat. The female lacks the grey head, and the throat is duller.
This species may appear to be closely related to the lesser whitethroat, the species having evolved only during the end of the last ice age similar to the willow warbler and chiffchaffs. However, researchers found the presence of a white throat is an unreliable morphological marker for relationships in Sylvia, and the greater and lesser whitethroats are not closely related.
This is a bird of open country and cultivation, with bushes for nesting. The nest is built in low shrub or brambles, and 3–7 eggs are laid. Like most warblers, it is insectivorous, but will also eat berries and other soft fruit.

Seattle continues to grow at an ever-increasing rate. The downtown region has gained so many buildings, particularly on its northern side, that one can no longer see the Space Needle from this vantage.

Back in the day photography close-ups of nature was very appealing to me and while my interests have evolved into different subjects and styles I always find my way back to my photo roots of macro. Recently Reid Northrup a fellow Flickr-ite has posted the most dreamy flower photos he uses LensBaby Soft Optic II and after looking into their line of lenses I picked up their Velvet 85 thanks to B&H Photo and their daily deals. Although the results are different between the two lenses I’m happy with my choice and how it fits in to my photography style.
BTW: check out Reid’s photostream he does some amazing work.

Plas Newydd is a country house set in gardens, parkland and surrounding woodland on the north bank of the Menai Strait, in Llanddaniel Fab, near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales. The current building has its origins in 1470, and evolved over the centuries to become one of Anglesey's principal residences. Owned successively by Griffiths, Baylys and Pagets, it became the country seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and the core of a large agricultural estate. The house and grounds, with views over the strait and Snowdonia, are open to the public, having been owned by the National Trust since 1976.
The house site was first occupied in the 13th century, and was known as Llwyn-y-Moel. By 1470 it belonged to the Griffith family, who also owned Penrhyn Castle near Bangor. Gwilym ap Griffith had acquired substantial Anglesey holding from his marriage to Morfydd, daughter of Goronwy ap Tudur of Penmynydd. Robert Griffith built the earliest parts of the current house in the early 16th century, creating a hall-house.
The Menai Strait (Welsh: Afon Menai, the "river Menai") is a narrow stretch of shallow tidal water about 25 km (16 mi) long, which separates the island of Anglesey from the mainland of Wales. It varies in width from 400 metres (1,300 ft) from Fort Belan to Abermenai Point to 1,100 metres (3,600 ft)

During an early morning game drive in Tanzania, we were fortunate to observe this Cheetah dragging a fresh kill back into the bush. It took the Cheetah several minutes to drag the animal, which probably weighed as much as the Cheetah.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal on the planet. Known for their breathtaking speed, agility, and spotted coat.
The East African Cheetah can be found in the grasslands and savannas of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Somalia.
The word “cheetah” ultimately comes from the Sanskrit word (“Chita”) which means “spotted one.”
For thousands of years, cheetahs have made grand “house” pets. Historically, emperors, kings, and pharaohs kept them as a sign of wealth. Their history with humans can be dated as far back as 3200 BCE. Although they were never technically domesticated, the cheetah is comparable to today’s domestic cat in many ways.
The cheetah is the only member of the cat family that doesn’t possess the capability to fully retract its claws. Cheetahs evolved to have semi-retractable claws to give them a good grip on the ground while chasing fast-moving prey. Other felines and big cats retract their claws in order to sneak up on prey. For the cheetah who relies more on speed, its claws are adapted for fast running.
Cheetahs have long, black lines that run down their face from their eyes to their mouth, called “malar stripes.” Malar stripes are an adaptation for deflecting the brightest sunlight off the horizon or the wide-open savannas, allowing them to see better in the daylight. They help the cheetah focus on their prey when they are hunting.
Cheetahs are considered crepuscular hunters, meaning they hunt at dawn and dusk. Most often cheetahs can be found hunting between 6:00 and 10:00 in the morning and 4:00 and 6:00 in the evening.
