The Swatch Skiers Cup, the first-ever continental team freeski event, will return to Valle Nevado (Chile) from 1 to 9 September 2012 and see 16 of the world’s best freeskiers competing in both Big Mountain and Backcountry Slopestyle to bring back home the treasured Swatch Skiers Cup trophy.
The 2 teams of 8 Riders, led by captains Mark Abma (Team Americas) and Sverre Lilliequist (Team Europe), will battle in a series of man-to-man duels in the Chilean Andes. A rider winning his duel scores one point for his team and the team with the most points at the end of the 2-day competition gains possession of the Swatch Skiers Cup trophy for one year.
The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Compliance hosted the 8th Annual Rites of Passage Pre-Commencement Ceremony on May 23, 2024. This event recognizes Ramapo College students of Color who have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree, celebrating the students' accomplishments, hard work and dedication. The keynote speaker was Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez, Latine activist and writer. In addition, this year, a few members of the campus community were honored with a "Still I Rise" award. This award was given to 2 students, 1 faculty, and 1 staff member who embodied uplifting their communities despite challenges they may have faced.
Bareback riding is a roughstock event where the contestant's score is equally dependent upon his performance and the horse's performance. The cowboy will attempt to ride his horse for eight seconds by hanging on to a handle similar to a suitcase handle on a strap, cinched on his horse.
The cowboy must ‘mark his horse out,’ or have both his spurs touching the horse’s shoulders until the horse’s feet touch the ground after horse’s first move out of the chute. Failure to do this will result in a disqualification. If the cowboy touches the horse, himself, or any of his equipment with his free hand he is disqualified.
The cowboy is judged on how he spurs, to what degree his toes stay turned out during the ride as he spurs, as well as how well the cowboy handles the horse’s moves. The horse is scored on how hard he is to ride based on if the horse changes direction, and bucks with lots of energy and power.
