Every year at our Breakfast of Champions, we honor those individuals who exemplify the American Red Cross belief that each of us has the power to save a life.
Hillsboro police officer Jesus Rios was patrolling one evening when he was flagged down by the frantic parents of a two-week-old boy. Their baby wasn’t breathing and, after calling 9-1-1, they were now on the way to the hospital.
Rios, who served as an Army medic, knew just what to do when the parents handed him the baby – he gave two small rescue breaths and started performing infant CPR. After a long moment, the baby responded, smiling and squeezing Rios’ finger. While paramedics and physicians later stepped in to help, it was Officer Rios’ actions that saved the life of this newborn.
Plexus Worldwide shared hope, health and happiness with attendees of the 2023 Annual Convention. The Plexus convention was held from June 15th through June 18th at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Ambassadors and their guests were treated to a variety of motivational speakers including keynotes by Alec, Gene and Tarl, John Maxwell, Valorie Burton, and Sara Ross. Musical performances kicked the event off with some of Nashville’s finest musicians and singers!

The 4th annual Bikini Under the Bridge was a beautiful success. There were two shows, each featuring six very talented and creative designers. The first show was at 5:00 pm and the second was at 7:00 pm. The make-up artistes were great. The models were amazing. The afternoon was perfect. With the aim of supporting families fleeing the war in Ukraine, our library has proposed a cooperation between the Nova Hvylja Association and the book’s publisher Móra Publishing House. Together, we published eight stories from Csenge Zalka Virág’s award-winning storybook to provide them to 1,500 Ukrainian refugee families. The collection of folk tales in Ukrainian entitled Ribizli a világ végén [Ribizli at the End of the World], was published in a new Ukrainian edition, with expanded content and renewed illustrations more in line with Ukrainian traditions.
Ukrainian children and their companions took part in the extraordinary book launch upon the courtesy of the association, and the organisers entertained them with fairy tale reading, folk songs and circus performances. Among others, Hungarian actress Nelli Szűcs, Jászai Mari Prize winner, a worthy and distinguished artist of the National Theatre in Budapest, read a story from the book in Ukrainian to the audience.
At the event, Dávid Rózsa, Director General of the NSZL, Liliana Grexa, President of the Association, and Zoltán Fürjes, State Secretariat for Church, Civil Society and Nationality Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office welcomed the guests. Dávid Rózsa emphasized that the cooperation and support for the good cause came quickly from the participants of the edition. Zoltán Fürjes’ speech focused on fairy tales, ‘the ancient shared tradition that must be rediscovered over and over again’ and ‘which can enchant us and take us out of reality’. The president of the association expressed the hope that the book will remain a lasting memory of Hungary for Ukrainian children.
